It's week two of having these beautiful shoes in my life and what better way to continue the story than with the Creative Director herself, Patricia Araujo. This article was taken from House of Coco's website and the article can be found here. If you didn't already know, I've been given a great opportunity to try out Erasmo Pagano's new collection of shoes. You can find my first blog post on the unboxing of them here. So without further ado, let's hear a little more about the brand from Patricia!
Can you tell us a bit about your brand and your journey to getting where you are today?
Wao! It has been a long but beautiful journey….
Erasmo Pagano is my step father’s name. He is from Italy. An immigrant who came to Venezuela (my native country) and dedicated his life to the woman shoe industry. Our new brand is a recognition of his more than 40 years in the business, not only as a stylist but also as a manufacturer.
Erasmo Pagano is a contemporary and luxury brand inspired by color trends, textures, patterns and accessories that I simply like, always combining this with the confluence of our South American background with the best designing practices available. Our goal is to offer a beautiful, comfortable and high quality product. Our range of styles includes for now ballerinas, loafers, espadrilles, wedges and oxfords. Looking forward to expand our styles.
When I started in this industry, I simply felt in love!! I learnt with the coaching of Erasmo how to make women shoes which involves a complex and exiting manufacturing process and business. We used to own our factory in my country but the current economic and political situation forced us to look for new horizons to keep our passion and efforts alive. It has not been easy but we have learnt that this was the time to move on and fence out our fears.
And here we are!! A UK brand with an interesting mixture of Italian and Venezuelan origins bonded together to start fresh in a new and exiting marketplace. Our business is in London to offer the best of our designs and inspirations to the rest of the world. From here we coordinate all our Sales and Distribution efforts. Alongside, we have been fortunate enough to join forces with a local businessman in Portugal to open our own manufacturing facilities. Our goal is to control the quality of our shoes and improve the response time to our customers.
It has been a wonderful year with many ups and downs, though luckily surrounded by great people who have been very supportive and working hard to get ready for the challenges ahead.
In summary when can categorise Erasmo Pagano as a very good complement for an effortless chic but yet elegant style…
What has been your highlight since launching the brand?
Everything has been so exiting for me, but nothing like when we finally closed on our first client.
Who is involved in the business?
The beautiful thing is that this is a family business. We are a good team where each one has a special talent. From Erasmo to my children who provide for me the best QA there is.
What product has been your best seller?
Our best seller has been Acarigua Lights, a ballerina with a mosaic like leather. It is a lovely model inspired in a beautiful region of my country, characterised for its many colours of the nature that surround it. Interesting enough they are wearable with every outfit.
Describe the brand in 3 words?
Audacious, luxurious, comfortable.
Tell us what a typical day in your life looks like?
I wake up early, make breakfast, prepare kids for school, get my home ready and go to work. At work, for now I’m a designer, a buyer, a sales agent, an entrepreneur and my own secretary. On top of that I’m regularly in contact with my partner in Portugal to follow up the status of my orders. Eventually, I would only love to keep my role as Designer. In the afternoon, once kids return from school it is difficult to get back to work. Especial caring with the little one who needs attention on his homework. At the end of the day dinner!! So, extra times at night is sometimes something I must do to wrap up the day. Three times a week I make some exercises, or at least that’s what I have on my schedule.
How do you juggle work and social life?
I can be very busy but my weekends are to relax with my family and friends. I love to invite them to our home. It is something I enjoy.
You are obviously a creative person, when your creativity is lacking what do you do to get it back?
I have to go out alone, do some window shopping and make eye contact with everything around me. It is the only way I can focus my mind again.
What sets your range apart from anything else that is currently on the market?
Colours!! I love coloured patterns and explore different textures.
Who/what inspires you?
I’m inspired by people who have reach their dreams. I’m inspired by my relentless need to do something beautiful that stands out.
Are there any sources you go for support with running your business?
Not at the moment, but I would love to have all the support I can.
What are your plans for the brand in 2016?
I’m working to expand our styles and start preparing a good range of high heels and boots to go with our flat shoes.
Are there plans to expand outside the world of socks?
Possibly in not such a far distance. Jewelries perhaps!!
At House of Coco we love to travel, tell us about your favourite place on the planet?
The Venezuelan Amazonia. This is a world apart. The natural scenery is simply gorgeous, majestic! It is a land of great contrasts and a touch of mystery.
If there’s one business owning activity you could get better at, what would it be?
Streamline my finances
For others aspiring to run their own company, what advice would you give?
Follow your instincts. Everyone around you would have something to say, but at the end of the day it must be your decision that counts.
Don’t lose your faith on what you are doing, and work with passion at everything you do.
