A primer is something that I've never really invested in or bothered with when it comes to makeup. So when I was picking my latest Feelunique buys, I thought I'd try out one of the very best (at least that's what most of the beauty lovers say). Benefit's Porefessional PRO balm has been hailed as another cult beauty product for the masses and I knew that if any primer could be part of my makeup routine, it would have to be this one.
So my initial thoughts were that it came in gorgeous packaging. The tube was a reasonable size but money savvy me definitely thinks that for £24.50, you could get a cheaper primer that probably does just as well. However, as a newcomer to primers, I think trying a high-end primer is going to help me compare to others when I get round to trying more!
The texture of the primer is what I found most unusual. I don't know whether it's the same for others but it has this velvety feel to it which I believe is what gives this mattifying effect it promises on it's packaging. I found that adding a small amount to the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin and then blending it in was probably the easiest way of applying it as to begin with, I added way to much product to my face. This ended up creating weird residue on my face. Not good!
The primer is neutral, again another aspect of a primer that I'm not quite sure about. I don't know whether you can get tinted primers (I'm pretty sure you can) but this was definitely one that didn't affect the tone of my skin.
After applying this to the skin, my skin feels softer and more even. Applying makeup on top seemed to glide on much easier and the overall finish of my skin looked better. I do think primers are therefore a good step in prepping the skin after moisturising as it almost gives the makeup a fresh canvas to work off. I don't really know whether this is worth the £25 but I'd ask for a sample at your local Benefit counter to test it out.
