Ever since we moved into our first property together, I’ve been looking on property sites for our dream home. One of my must-haves when it comes to our checklist is to do with the kitchen and I’m looking for specifics on what I want in a home and if it’s not there – can it be achieved eventually? Picking our next home is going to be a lot different from our first home because there’s going to be a lot more life changes happening in this property. So here are a few things I really want for my dream kitchen.

A Kitchen Island
Kitchen islands are a beautiful feature to have in a kitchen because they provide that standing area to entertain guests in your home and are just another useful preparation surface when cooking. Our current kitchen is pretty small in comparison to what I want to aim for and even though we could possibly install a kitchen island, I think it would just make the space feel more cramped. So a kitchen island is something I’m looking for in our next property or at least the opportunity to create one if needed.
Floor To Ceiling Sliding Doors
Floor to ceiling sliding windows or doors are a MUST when it comes to the kitchen because I’ve always loved the idea of having the whole back area of the kitchen, looking out onto the garden. I think it also helps to let in all of the daylight and if it were possible, I’d want a skylight in the ceiling too. I’ve seen a lot of properties already that have this and there’s also plenty of there that have the potential. I just think it’s something that makes the room look bigger and will be great for when we have kids and a dog. Wine Cooler
Wine coolers are so fancy and I want to be that fancy person that has a wine cooler. It’s not quite the dream of dreams that would be a wine cellar but one dream at a time! We have a wine storage rack in our current apartment but I think just being able to have a separate wine cooler, perhaps fitted into the kitchen island, would be a good shout. It’s not something that I’ll expect to be already in a home but I want to ensure the space is available to have one.
Room For A Big Oven & Fridge Freezer
And finally, the things that really matter are the white goods. I’ve always wanted a big American-type fridge freezer and I want to be able to cook for my whole family with a big oven, rather than the traditional four gas-ring ovens you get. I’ve already picked out the oven I want, which is the Smeg Victoria. I love the Smeg brand and when we get the family home, I’ll want to add a kettle to my collection too! And if we’re sticking with Smeg, I’d go for this fridge freezer.
