How to Find the Right Interior Designer

As much as we know our tastes, sometimes it can be hard to communicate these into beautiful home designs. This could mean that we get lost in the details or lose track of our goals and end up with something we don’t like. Interior designers are here to help you create a space that’s perfect for you. Still, how do you find one that suits you? Instead of getting lost in local ads, consider these items before you shop around. Here’s how to find the right interior designer.

Your Budget

How much can you afford? Although you may think you can get a lot for a couple of hundred dollars, you have to realize that amount often won’t even cover most of the furniture. So be reasonable with a budget that will cover both how much you’re willing to pay them and how much you’re ready to pay for the furniture they’ll pick for you.

The best way to lay out a budget is to go room to room and decide how much you can handle per space. If you’re not ready to afford your entire home yet, you can piece it up and have them work room by room.

Your Tastes

Although most interior designers can handle various styles, many stick to one or two that they prefer. There’s nothing wrong with this, but if you pick the wrong one, you may find that you’re stuck with a designer that doesn’t suit your tastes. It can be frustrating to want a minimalist modern home and have a designer who likes maximalism and over decorates everything with a beach theme. Write down the things you like and want, and then look for designs that match that. Write their name down and use them for reference when describing what you want.

Ask For References

If one of your friends has a home you love, ask them who designed it for them! It may not feel very comfortable, but this isn’t like you’re asking to borrow their entire look. Your home will be made to look like it’s yours, not like all of the Oakland houses for sale done by the same designer; they should be capable of creating unique looks that show off the owner’s personality.

If your friend isn’t sure about it, let them know you love their decor and how it suits them, and you just want something that works for you just as well.

Look At Interior Design Sites

Look around at local interior design blogs and websites! You’ll undoubtedly find someone posting their portfolio of work that suits your style. Shop around and try to get quotes from a handful of designers, and don’t settle on the first one you see. As important as it is to get a design you want, it’s also vital that you find someone you can afford without breaking the bank and making the interior of your fridge look minimal.

Interior design is a fantastic way to show off your personality and let people know what type of person you are. So take this seriously, and find an interior designer who can create a space that you’ll feel both comfortable and represented.
