Tips To Cut Costs During The Pandemic

The pandemic. I mean I remember the first time I mentioned it on my blog and I’m looking forward to not having to write content with the mention of COVID-19 or pandemic in it. However, it’s still very much part and parcel of all our lives at the moment and many of us are still struggling through it. Whether it’s affected you mentally or financially, there’s a lot that can be done to help you get through it all. Here are some tips to cut costs during the pandemic.

Take a look at your budget or create one

Do you have a monthly budget that you refer to when it comes to cutting costs? If you don’t, then this is the perfect time to get handy with an excel spreadsheet and draft one up to help see what you’re spending. If you already have one, then it might be a little outdated and in need of an update. The better you can be with your budget, the more money you’ll end up saving. Many end up not having a budget and then just spending haphazardly, hoping that the wages will stretch until next payday. However, that’s not always the case.

Change your bill providers to more affordable ones

Bills have to be paid, that’s a given. However, that doesn’t always mean that you need to be forking out a lot of money in the process. And who really wants to spend a lot of their money on household bills anyway? Try to reduce them where you can by regularly looking out for cheaper deals on your utility bills, whether that be your heating, water, or even your insurance. Insurance providers like Protect Your Family can be great for comparing insurance providers when necessary so that you can get the best deal to protect you and your loved ones.

Temporarily ban your luxuries

As much as it may be nice to have luxuries in life, anything other than your bills and food should be considered a luxury. Things like a gym membership or a subscription to a beauty brand are luxuries and as such can be temporarily cut whilst you get yourself financially stable. It’s short-term pain for a long-term gain and we’ve had to do the same in our home. It may sound extra AF but as we don’t own a car, I have a bouquet of flowers as a subscription service every month for £20. We cut this and one of my beauty subscriptions out to help save money. It’s only £30-ish saved but it makes a difference.

Sell stuff online

And lastly, if you’re wanting to make a bit of extra income here and there, it’s time to do an annual declutter of your home. Sell anything you don’t need and that’s perhaps been collecting dust or hasn’t seen the light of day for months or years. Selling your stuff has also never been easier, with so many online platforms to choose from and that literally sells everything and anything you own.
