One of the big changes that’s happened recently in our lives is that we’ve moved into our first house. Our first property was a flat in London, and we’re now up in my hometown in a house that has its own driveway and garden. That presents a new challenge of maintaining the exterior space and making sure to keep on top of these new areas that we’re not used to, in order to keep it looking good. So, how can you extend the lifespan and the appearance of a driveway? Here are some helpful tips worth knowing when it comes to doing just that.

Identify the materials that make up your driveway
Whether you got the driveway done yourself or you moved into a property where the driveway was already paved and in good condition, it’s useful to identify the materials that make up your driveway. The reason is that you’ll want to know what materials it is so that you can help fix the problems that occur when it requires maintenance.
The type of materials you use on a driveway will vary in terms of cost and your budget you have, and what type of vehicles or equipment you keep on the driveway. Resin driveways, for example, are a good material because they offer the aesthetic appeal while also being highly practical. Resin for driveways is permeable and also helps contribute to sustainable drainage.
Clean your driveway regularly
Regularly cleaning your driveway is important, regardless of how much rainfall you might get on your property. Sometimes, applying a special cleaning solution to certain materials or jetwashing your driveway is the only solution for helping bring up your driveway’s appearance for the better.
Typically, rainwater isn’t clean or filtered, so it’s likely to contribute to the dirtiness of your driveway over time.
Do weed control
Weed control is great when you’re proactive with removing it from your paving stones and from the driveway in general. Even just a few weeds can make the exterior of your home feel unkept and neglected.
It’s easy enough to take control of the weeds in your driveway. However, it might be a good idea to look at weed-killing solutions so that the weeds aren’t coming back frequently and taking up your time when it could be spent better elsewhere. Look at what weeds exist in your outdoor space currently, and look at getting them removed as soon as possible.
It’s good to know that some weed killing products will need a little longer to set or soak in before letting loose your little ones, including any fur babies!
Address any potholes or repairs immediately
Potholes on your driveway can pose a problem. Not only do they become a danger to your car, but they can also cause more problems for others who might be using your driveway at any point.
Repair work might be needed on occasion for your driveway, so if you identify an issue with your driveway at any point, it’s better to get it addressed sooner rather than later.
What does your driveway look like currently? Use these tips to get the most out of your driveway and its appearance this year.
