There’s nothing more frustrating than spending more money on your utility bills. From water to gas and electricity, the money you spend on running your home can add up to a fortune.
With that being said, anything you can do to help keep your water bills down is helpful, and there are plenty of ways in which you can do that productively this year.

Take fewer baths and shorter showers
While taking a bath might be something you enjoy a great deal, the more baths you take, the more water you’ll consume. It’s therefore helpful to minimise the number of baths you have and opt for showers instead.
As well as taking fewer baths and more showers, it’s good to put a time limit on how long you spend in the shower, too. I have a habit of spending longer than necessary in the shower, and that’s usually down to me singing…
Install a water tank on your property
A water tank is an important installation to consider on your property. This can be a great way to save some of the rainwater that falls onto your property, which can then be used in and around your home when filtered properly. With water tanks, you can save a lot of money on your energy bills, particularly for water purposes. Not only that, but it’s a sustainable approach and environmentally-friendly way of improving your home’s carbon footprint.
Stop the tap when brushing your teeth
When you’re brushing your teeth, do you let the tap continue running water? You likely do by default, and what you probably don’t realise is that you’re wasting a lot of water just by doing this alone.
With that being said, try to wet your toothbrush before brushing and then turn the tap off while brushing. That way, you limit the amount of water you’re wasting.
Load up your dishwasher and washing machines fully
To help save on water consumption and your bills in general, make sure you’re loading up your dishwasher and washing machines fully. If they’re being loaded halfway, then this is going to he a waste on the water you’re using for these wash loads. It’s better to cram them full rather than to only have them half full.
Of course, it’s important to know how much capacity these machines can take so that you’re not overloading them.
Use appliances at less popular times of the day
If you’re using appliances at less popular times of the day, then you can end up saving yourself a fortune. Try to use your appliances, which are connected to water, at certain times of the day that aren’t going to be used by most people. That way, you pay less of a premium when it comes to water usage.
There are plenty of ways that you can maximise your water usage whilst also keeping your energy bills down. What advice would you give to those struggling with high water bills? Let me know in the comments below.
