I was sent the Acai Berry powder which I decided to put into a breakfast smoothie. To make this smoothie I used four ingredients.
- Scottish Oats
- 1 Banana
- 1 Teaspoon of Acai Berry Powder
Normally I’ll use Almond milk to make it more healthier but unfortunately I’d ran out whilst making this. The Acai Berry Powder costs £8.99 for 50g which I would say used every day will last you a week or two, depending on whether you use one teaspoon or two. It also comes in bigger sizes; 100g (£16.99) and 250g (£31.99). I used my Breville Blender to blend all the ingredients together. I first added the milk into the blender, then chopped the banana into slices so that it wouldn’t block the blade of the blender. After adding the banana I spooned in around 3-4 tablespoons of Scottish Oats. This is personal preference so if you want a thicker smoothie, add more oats and vice versa if you want a thinner shake.
I then added one heaped teaspoon of the powder. The powder comes in a resealable pouch, so it stays fresh. There’s not a noticeably strong smell to the powder but it’s very pigmented in colour so I expected my shake to go super red. This was the result,
I expected it to go a much deeper pink but I’d say that would occur if you add an extra teaspoon. The taste itself wasn’t very noticeable either, which I’m not sure was good or bad. It had a slight bitter taste but that’s because of the berry in it. I would certainly recommend it for it’s benefits;
– Rich in antioxidants due to its anthocyanins concentration – 10 times more antioxidants than found in red grapes!
– Lowers cholesterol levels in the blood, improve circulation and promote a healthy heart!
– High in iron, calcium, fibre and vitamin A.
– Fights off harmful organisms.
– Promotes glowing and healthier skin!
– Fights the aging process.
– Boosts levels of stamina and energy.
– Helps the digestive system process food due to its high fibre content.
I’d give this an overall rating of 7/10. The benefits are obviously the selling point of the powder but as for the taste, I’d definitely prefer something more sweeter and stronger.
