Five Ways To Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

– SPONSORED CONTENT –

Owning a home is wonderful but as a household, I’m conscious of the impact myself and my partner are making on the environment. It’s nice to finally have warmer weather more often here in the UK but that has clearly come at a cost in terms of global warming etc. So how can you make your home more energy efficient? Here are five ways that I’ll change to make our home more eco-friendly.

Windows

No Heating On From June Until September

It’s unlikely that we’ll need to heat our apartment at all during these months and although having your heating on can be costly, we’re with an incredible company called Bulb and we pay a set fee each month which doesn’t change. However, having no heating on means that we’ll be reducing our carbon footprint for somewhat of the year. So from the beginning of June, there will be no heating on at home!

Upgrading Windows

We don’t necessarily have to worry replacing windows as we’ve moved into a development with double-glazed ones that are brand new. However, a lot of homes do have windows that are probably old now and could do with replacement windows by Premier Windows. You can get double glazing in Dorset if you’re in that area and it can make a big difference to keeping your home warmer for longer. This means you use less heating and you’ll stop the cold air from coming in. We do have a problem with one of our windows though where there seems to be a slight draft coming through, so we’re aiming to get that fixed this summer.

Get A Recycling Bin

When we first moved into the property, we did rush buy a few items and the bin was one of them. Although it does the job, it doesn’t have a section to store recycled rubbish. This is a problem because we’re finding that instead of recycling plastic and other packaging, we’re just chucking it out with the regular rubbish. So we’re certainly going to find a bin that has two sections to it so we can be more environmentally friendly with the way we chuck our rubbish out.

No More Fast Fashion

Fast fashion is something that has been brought up a lot lately in the fashion industry. So many clothes are being produced and manufactured and we’re lapping it up by buying it and then throwing out after the season is over. For some, it’s even disposed of faster than that. We’re not too bad but I do end up buying clothes that really don’t suit me but was part of a trend. Instead, I’m now making a conscious effort to invest more in quality so that it lasts longer and to also go for clothes that are more my style.

Less Plastic

Plastic is a material that takes forever to break down and it’s great to see so many big corporations making the move to remove plastic from production. It started with plastic bags being chargeable and now a lot of bars, pubs, and restaurants are replacing plastic straws with alternative ones. I want to do the same for myself by using fabric bags for shopping and in regards to shopping, we no longer have the option to pack our delivery using plastic bags which is great. We also use HelloFresh at the moment and they deliver all their produce in paper bags, so I think we’re doing well.
