The weather is getting warmer and I already feel better in myself because the days are longer, it’s lighter for longer and more importantly, the sun is shining. Summer is a beautiful time of year but it’s important to be conscious of your skin and how you look after it during these hotter months. As I get older, I’m noticing the habits of my skin and what works for me and what doesn’t. So I thought I’d share with you how I’m taking care of my skin over summer.
Throwback to a time when I was being pampered with Kiehl’s
Exfoliation For The Nation
First off, I need to get some exfoliating back into my life. My skin is quite sensitive and therefore really harsh exfoliants aren’t going to be nice for my skin. I prefer more natural exfoliators like a coffee scrub for example because it’s invigorating on the skin while being more gentle. I can go to town a bit more on the rest of my body but for my face, I need something that will work but not leave me looking like a tomato. I’m thinking of investing in a facial cleansing brush as I used to own one and it was great for gently buffing away the dead skin cells. It also meant that I didn’t need to use any abrasive in the products I was using.
BB Cream Instead Of Foundation
I’ve noticed that I do tend to suffer from a bit of oily-ness in my skin and as I sweat quite a lot during the summer, having a heavy foundation is not the one. I recently discovered the BB cream and I got gifted the Garnier SkinActive BB Cream which is literally a dream to put on my skin. It’s a sheer to medium coverage and has an SPF in it which is great for protecting my skin. It’s essentially a tinted moisturiser and I love it! I find it’s so much better than wearing foundation and it’s a great way of getting the moisturiser and SPF into my skincare routine in one go.
Time For SPF
SPF is something we Brits can definitely forget about wearing because the amount of sun we do get is pretty rare. However, whenever the sun is shining, we should be wearing an SPF of some degree to protect our skin. Thankfully my BB cream has SPF in it but I think I’ll get myself some form of suntan lotion for my body when I start wearing summer clothing and I also want to perhaps get a night cream that can help with sun exposure and fixing any imperfections overnight.
Trying More Acids
Acids have fast become a big thing on the beauty market and I myself have tried one or two but I’d love to properly implement them into my skincare routine going forward. I thankfully don’t suffer from any serious skin conditions other than my sensitivity so as long as I pick fairly gentle acids, I should be ok.
