What You Will Need For A Longer Stay Abroad

– COLLABORATIVE CONTENT –

The visa is nothing new when it comes to travel, but for many of the younger generation, it’s not well-known. Why is this? Well, for many years some young people have lived in a different way as compared to the rest of the world. For Europeans, the system of the visa travel has been replaced by a nonchalant and broad spectrum of travel laws. Essentially, the world has carried on with its own set of rules and the EU has gone a different route. Therefore if you are from a European country, perhaps the visa is not something you have encountered unless you have specifically travelled out of the continent. So why would you need a visa in the first place? Well, if you want to stay abroad in a particular country for longer than normal holiday time then you need specific documents of approval. Basically, if you want to live in the country for a longer than average amount of time, then the country you’re entering needs to know who you are. There are other things you need for a longer stay abroad, however.

Suitcase Holiday

Rough and rugged

Packing your suitcase for an elongated stay is very different from that of someone who is going on holiday. You might want to swap that swimsuit for something a little more rugged. Clothes that are tough and made from higher quality materials are what you should be packing. But why? Well, when you’re abroad for long you don’t really want to spend money on clothes so you don’t want your clothes falling apart quickly and you want them to stay presentable. Therefore clothes that are made from materials like pure cotton, pure wool, refined synthetics and strong or stretch denim are the way to go. Buy a good high-quality pair of jeans as denim can withstand a lot of punishment. Instead of packing a bikini, you should pack khakis and shorts that are made from nylon or polyester. Rough and rugged clothes will also last a lot longer when you’re exploring. If you plan on exploring Brazil’s Amazon Rainforest then you should pack clothes that will be able to withstand the heat, the friction rubbing from rocks, trees and stay tough when you’re wading through streams and rivers.

Be medically prepared

When you’re away from home for a long time such as up to 6 months, you will be away from the healthcare you are used to. Many nations around the world don’t have healthcare that you would write home about. Many nations want you to pay upfront before they even treat you. So it’s a good idea to make sure your own health is taken care of by bringing any kind of medicines you use in bulk. For example, if you suffer from eczema you should bring over your own topical steroid ointments, creams and lotions. If you have any kind digestive issues, bring your own tablets over and have plenty of them to last you for the duration of your stay.

This does mean you will be stopped by customs and asked to explain what these items are and if you have any kind of paperwork to help you in this matter. It’s wise to get these made before you travel as some medicines might not be allowed in for whatever reason. Different nations have their own drug and medicinal use laws so be prepared with documentation proving what you’re bringing in is safe and only for you. Take this very seriously, it’s your health and when you’re so far from home you can’t afford to take any shortcuts.

Travelling

Acceptance And Entry

When you’re travelling on a visa, you’re not a normal passenger. You are someone who is going to be entering into another country not to go on holiday or go to an event, you’re going to be taking on almost the same lifestyle as other citizens. Therefore you need to take this very seriously as you’re essentially dealing with a foreign government. Therefore you need to make sure you have a  flight reservation for visa and documents to prove you have booked the flight, you have the ticket and the flight has been confirmed by the airline. The customs officers and immigration officers will be checking your documents and they need to know your visa has been approved. The visa has to be approved after you have the documents mentioned so the visa can be made active as soon as you are on the flight.

So why is this done? Well, your visa is time limited. For example, you might only be needing to be abroad for 3 months, thus the visa will be made active when your journey has begun. From that point onward your 3-month window to be in the country has begun. This is to be accurate and know when your time is up and when the government of the country you’re in wants to recall you to send you home.

Make Regular Contact

So far from home and living in a different country for so long, can make you forget about the life you had back home. You also need to remember to let people back home know where you are and what you’re doing. This is mainly for safety reasons as many people all around the world just go missing and are never heard from again while on a visa trip. You’re a stranger in a strange land so you need to make sure you have some kind of way to let the authorities at home know where you are and what you’re doing. In case anything occurs, they know where to look and allow the government of the country to help you if you need anything.

Visa travels are a lot longer than normal holidays. It could be that you want to live in another country for the next 6 months or even a year. You might want to just explore the nation or possibly find a job to further your career. However, you need to do these basic things first such as packing good strong, rugged clothes.
