The unprecedented situation we currently find ourselves in is something we could have never imagined. It’s extremely surreal to think that we can no longer walk into a shop as and when we want to, as well as the joys of everyday life we have taken for granted for so long being put on hold. I’m sure I won’t be the only one in saying that the current lockdown restrictions have left me with a lot of spare time on my hands and often wondering what I can do to keep myself entertained. It’s really important to make the most of this spare time we have, whether it’s learning a new skill or achieving some of your fitness goals, as this will help with your overall wellbeing during this uncertain period. One thing I’ve been able to do during the past few months is to spruce up my home a little and I don’t mean extravagant DIY and redecorating tasks. There’s nothing I love more than carrying out a good clean and declutter of my home and it appears I’m not the only one. Back in spring, Willow & Hall completed a survey that asked 1,000 UK respondents how they like to enter a new season when it comes to the interior of their homes. From a simple lick of paint to new furniture, the answers were rather interesting.

Unfortunately, not everyone is in the best financial situation at the moment so although many of us would like to use this spare time to redecorate the entire home, it’s not a realistic idea. If this is the situation you find yourself in but want to spruce up your home, then I want to share with you some simple tips to make your house smell fresh and look sparkling.
Create A Comforting Scent
When we want our home to smell nice we often opt for an air freshener or candle, but there is a more natural way to create a comforting smell throughout your home. This can be done by adding a mixture of fruits and herbs to a pan of hot water and simmering them lightly on your kitchen hob. Citrus fruits such as lemon, lime, and orange can release a cleansing smell throughout the interior of your home, as well as herbs such as lavender and mint. Not only will this create the perfect scent, but it will also be cheaper than most supermarket alternatives.
Freshen Up Your Carpet
Carpets are one of the easiest ways to create a homely feel, but they can look worn fairly quickly depending on how you treat them. If you have opted for a lighter coloured carpet such as beige or a pastel colour, then they can become stained and dirtied much quicker, especially if they’re walked over often. Many online articles suggest that shaving foam can work wonders on lighter coloured carpets where marks and stains are visible. By simply applying it to the carpet, leaving it for a few minutes, and then wiping away, it should create a fresher look and improve the carpets feel as well.
Use Homemade Cleaning Solutions
You may already know of numerous homemade cleaning solutions and if so, it’s more than likely you’ll know vinegar can come in very useful. A good tip is to add one part vinegar to one part water in a spray bottle, then use this solution to spray the likes of your kitchen sink and worktops. When first sprayed you will get the scent from the vinegar but don’t worry, it soon disappears. This homemade cleaning solution is the perfect combination to make your surfaces sparkle.
Whether it’s carrying out a thorough clean of your home, completing an online course, or improving your cooking skills, it’s important we all make the most of this spare time we have available. By doing this, not only will it make the time pass much quicker, but it will also keep our spirits high and improve our mental and physical wellbeing. Use these tips to help spruce up your home during the lockdown.
