How To Kit Out Your Space To Work From Home

With many businesses now working from home, we’re all having to get accustomed to a new way of life. Gone are the days of making a coffee in the office kitchen and catching up with our work colleagues – say hello to the new working from the home era! And although it can take some getting used to, there are essentials you’ll need in order to work from home productively.

What do you need to ensure you can work from home easily? One major thing that you won’t be able to work from home without is internet service. If you have a job from home that requires no internet access, please tell us what it is! For many of us, the internet is literally the key to getting stuff done. No matter whether you’re in customer service, a consultant, business owner, or blogger, you’ll need good, strong, and reliable internet access. If you’re struggling with your current provider, make sure you shop around as you’ll be surprised at what deals are available at the moment. Equally, if part of your job requires a phone line or voice messaging services like Skype, you’ll need to have good phone service too.

What Do I Need To Create A Home Office?

So you’ve got all the essentials, what about an actual office space? If you have a spare bedroom you don’t use, transforming it into a home office is pretty straightforward. Home stores like IKEA and Wayfair have a number of desks, chairs, and other office furniture ready to go.

If you don’t have a separate room, find another space in the home that works for you. This could be at a kitchen island or a dining room table. Whatever you do, find a space that works and stick to it.
What about my new work attire?

Remember that clothes are not pyjamas. We’d all love to spend hours upon end in our pyjamas or loungewear, but it’s not conducive to a productive day! Now, no one said you have to wear stuffy business attire anymore, but a few nice women’s skirts and easy to wear tees or blouses will go along way to helping your working day feel separate to your chilled evening outfits. Yes, you may no longer have to dress to impress your work colleagues, but getting dressed into “work clothes” will help to break up the day.

Remember, when all is said and done, it can be easy to think you need to constantly be working all the time when you’re at home. Make sure you let go of your work at the end of the day, just as you would as soon as you leave the office for the day. If the clock hits 5pm and that’s the end of your day, leave what you’re working on till tomorrow.
