How COVID-19 Has Impacted Our Future Plans

Oh Covid-19, haven’t you got the hint yet? No one likes you! We’d all appreciate it if you just went away now, never to return again. It’s sadly taken the lives of many, made thousands upon thousands of people lose their jobs, and is effectively destroying industries as time goes on. Myself and my partner have had a few tough months but for the most part, we’re in a good position. However, just a few months of lockdown has shown us just how much of an impact that COVID-19 has had on our future plans. I thought I’d share with you, what has changed and has likely thrown a spanner into the works.

Plans*This is a collaborative post.

Driving Lessons & Getting A Car

I was really excited to start driving lessons and although I’m not completely throwing my plans out the window to start driving lessons at the end of this year, I would have hoped to have started by now. It all depends on how much I will earn throughout the winter months because unfortunately, the blogging world isn’t as financially healthy at the moment. I have a regular list of people I’ll email to ask about potential collaborations and at the start of this month, there were lots of ‘I’ve left the company‘ bounce backs. It’s sad because I’ve built relationships with some of these and they’re now out of a job.  We also wanted to get a car at the start of next year but it’s probably not going to happen until we’ve paid off most of the wedding costs.

Moving House

Moving home is going to be a big move for us this time because we’re going to be outside of London. We’re still both in agreement that we need to be as close to London as possible not just because of Sam’s job but because we love living in or near a city. There are plenty of commutable places that are the same distance as what we do now but we’re going to be able to get so much more for our money by moving outside of the city. We had plans to move at the end of 2021 but I think we’ll probably push it back to the start of 2022. This is due to wanting to save money so that we have the money to spend on our property and the sheer amount of additional furniture we’d need to get too. Buying a house right now though is probably one of the most beneficial things you can do if it’s possible for you. It’s worth checking out something like Mortgage Calculator to figure out how much you’ll need in order to get a mortgage for the properties you’re looking at.

The Wedding

Due to COVID-19,  big groups are certainly not going to be a thing for a while and that’s upsetting. I’ve seen a few childhood friends and friends from university, getting married under these unique circumstance and it’s weird. To think you’ve spent so much money on the wedding of your dreams, only to see it be a fraction of what you wanted because of restrictions is horrible. In my eyes, I’m already married to my partner, and the wedding is a celebration for both us and our friends/family to enjoy. So to cut it from 150 to anything less than 100 would be really difficult and might question whether we go ahead or delay it. It’s all up in the air until the new year but we have to continue as normal.

Going On A Honeymoon

The honeymoon we’ve got planned is to go to America and due to Covid-19, America is probably the worst off when it comes to the number of cases and how crazy it all is over there at the moment. At the same time, we now don’t want to book anything for fear of us losing a lot of money, especially as we wanted to travel to various places across the country. We’re holding back on booking anything at the moment as we just don’t know what’s going to happen until the vaccine has been distributed and things are back to normal.

How has COVID-19 impacted your life? Let me know in the comments below.
