Even though the pandemic has changed our way of living, when it comes to my work-life, nothing has really changed. There were a few tense moments early on in the lockdown where I thought I could potentially lose the bulk of my work but fingers crossed, that was simply a blip. The reason why nothing has changed is that my whole career right now is online. I’m a full-time freelance writer and blogger, having taken the plunge in October 2019. Yep, this year has been the most poorly timed in my decision to go freelance. Taking the plunge was something I was familiar with having come to London without a permanent full-time job, but it was still scary. Many businesses have their staff working from home but the problem with that is that not everyone has a home office setup.

I’m quite lucky in the sense that due to my side hustle turning into a full-time career, I had my office desk setup already in place earlier on last year in 2019. This meant that when lockdown happened and Sam found himself working from home, we could share our small two-bed apartment in different rooms. And this made it so much easier for me to do my work without disruption and Sam to do his. Here’s why you should consider a permanent home office in your home.
Remote Working Will Likely Be The Future
Remote working pre-covid was something that businesses would either offer to their staff or not. And even if it was offered, it wasn’t something that was easily available unless there was a viable reason for doing so. However, since the pandemic, remote working has clearly been adaptable for many businesses, showing companies that working from home can work for a business.
Of course, it’s not the same as having your staff where you can see them but as an employee, as long as the work gets done and money gets made, what’s the difference? It might not be the case for your company but remote working, in general, could become more frequently accepted and implemented. There are many benefits for companies to take advantage of remote working, especially if they can no longer afford rental/lease payments or want to save money in general.
It’s Good For When You Need Flexibility
Flexibility is something we all need. It’s needed when we lose a loved one. It’s when the toilet blocks up and we have to wait at home for a plumber to arrive. It’s when your child gets sick at school and needs picking up. Flexibility should be something that you’re given in your job and so having a home office can be your employer’s more lenient when it comes to allowing you to work from home. It’s knowing that you have a home office set up so that you can work without too much disruption and available enough to get most of your work done for the day.
Provides You With A Work-Style Environment
There are plenty of services and companies out there that can supply you with fitted home office furniture. And it’s worth getting yourself properly set up with furniture that’s going to be just like what you’d find in your office at work.
A home office can be good not only for you but for the rest of your household. Whether that includes other roommates, a partner, or children, the office is automatically a work-style environment. It can offer you and others that peace and quiet where it’s needed to take any important phone calls, to help your kids do homework, etc.
