Oh 2021, you’ve only been in our lives for under two weeks and already so much has happened. At times, I have to pinch myself just to see that I’m not dreaming and this isn’t just some long, drawn-out nightmare. Spoiler – it isn’t. So for 2021, I want to make sure that I’m taking care of myself, my fiance is, and that all my friends and family members are too. The same care and attention go to you guys, my readers. Looking after ourselves is so important and we can often forget to do it. With that being said here are five ways to look after your health and wellbeing in 2021.

Get An Early Night & Lie In
My friends and family tease me for spending so much time in bed but for me, it’s not only making sure I get enough sleep but also because my job exists around the internet. And because the internet never sleeps, I kind of do my work whenever and wherever it suits me. Obviously, as I get older and I start a family, I’ll need to adjust but there’s plenty of people who work all kinds of hours and still manage to have a family life.
Basically, what I’m saying is that don’t allow yourself to feel guilty for not being part of the status quo. There are no law-abiding rules saying you have to wake up and go to bed at a specific hour. Get an early night where you can and lie in when it’s needed. You’re always going to be more productive when you’ve had more sleep.
Eat Good Food & Indulge When Needed
Good food and indulging on the naughty food is always needed. Myself and my fiance have been tackling our PT sessions from the comfort of our own home since March last year and we’ve been trying to eat better. We’re doing it for the most part but there’s going to be times where we feel like crap and need to eat our feelings. That’s ok and you shouldn’t feel any guilt or shame for wanting to indulge. It’s all about moderation, so if you can balance the bad days with some good days, then you won’t feel as sluggish or lethargic. Remember that a mixture of healthy eating and exercise together can make a difference but it’s not always something you need to do unless you feel like you need it.
Manage Your Stress Levels Better
We all handle stress differently. I know that this working from home/being self-employed thing works for me because I like being my own boss. I like to have control over the hours I work and that I’m working towards myself and not some company that deep down, is only providing me with a pension at the end of it. I want to have made something worthwhile and to put my stamp on it and say, ‘yeah I did that and I’m proud of what I’ve made‘. I also know that I don’t cope well under particularly stressful scenarios and so there’s a degree of control with the work I do. If I feel uncomfortable, I can control it within the comfort of my own home. It’s a nice feeling to have.
Managing your stress is something you want to find for yourself. What helps you with stress? Vape oil with CBD can be easily purchased online if you’re someone that finds vaping to ease your stress. A glass of wine in the bath might be a good stress reliever. Going for a run or meeting a friend that will lend an ear can be good for stress. Find your stress outlets and use them to manage your stress levels successfully.
Switch Off Your Phone Or Leave It In Another Room
One thing I’ve noticed recently is that I’ve been leaving my phone in other rooms, mostly due to forgetting but I’ve pushed myself to leave my phone in those places when I can. It just helps to try and ween myself off my phone instead of carrying it with me wherever I go. Of course, there’s no denying that mobile phones are like an extra limb nowadays but when I’m working from home, I don’t need it glued to my side every hour.
If you’re finding that social media or your phone, in general, is serving as a distraction or you’ve perhaps got an unhealthy obsession with it, then try to switch it off or leave it in another room. Give yourself a break from it every once in a while and that way, you provide yourself with more opportunities to do something else than just sit on social media.
Get Outdoors
And finally, there’s nothing better than getting outdoors and getting some fresh air. Honestly, I feel so much better doing it after because you’re just so much more refreshed. It can really help during this time where lockdowns and tiers are still controlling our lives. There’s nothing worse than being inside for days and weeks on end. Even though I’m an introvert and I enjoy it a lot of the time, I do get cabin fever too and therefore need to get out.
If you’ve been couped up in your property for a while, then get outside for 20 minutes to an hour. Just a short walk around the block or a long walk down to a local park is going to really make all the difference. It’s always good to look after yourself and a walk can really help with your mind and body.
Health and wellbeing should be a main focus for 2021. Things aren’t really going to change anytime soon and because of that, it’s important to try and make the most of looking after yourself first before others. Make sure you’re speaking to friends and family when you need to as we all need that social connection. Don’t forget to spend time on yourself and to look after one another throughout this weird time.
