Are you sick and tired of renting? Wishing you can have a place of your own where you can paint the walls in any color you want? Then it’s time to knock a milestone off your chart and buy your own house. Easier said than done, right? Planning is the key to making the dream come true. Here’s how to get your dream home.

Find your home
First, find your home. If your lifestyle and career don’t allow you to do the searching process yourself, get in touch with a real estate agent. Many real estate agents already have listings available on their sites. Which makes it really convenient when you’re sitting at night with your glass of wine and flip through the listing to see if you can already spot your dream house. If you don’t find it on their site, don’t cry! Send them an email asking them to arrange a meeting. Tell them exactly what you want – the area you want to live in, the price range you can afford, amount of rooms and bathrooms you need, and also if there is any special feature that your house must-have. These special features include finished basements (a good idea if you want to rent the space out as an extra income), swimming pools, garages, etc.
Sold
After you lose your heart on the dream home, put in an offer. Take into account if there are any repairs that need to be done on the house. Find out from a professional how much it will cost to have these repairs done, and take that amount off from the asking price. This is all part of the negotiation. Do not feel offended when they decline your offer or come back with a counteroffer. But do sit back and think if the asking price with the amount to fix the faults is worth it. Whatever your answer is, you will know if you should rather look for another house or sign the contract. When it comes to the legal aspects, be smart and get some conveyancing quotes. Every bit you can save counts.
Move-in
Now the fun part, move into your dream home. When you are standing in your current apartments or rental house with stacks of empty boxes waiting to be filled, don’t sigh in frustration. Use this time to really figure out what you want to put into your home and what not to. Decluttering is a great process. You can either sell your items, donate if they are still in a decent condition, or throw them away if they are a lost cause. But it’s not all about tossing everything out. It’s also about going down memory lane and appreciating everything that happened in your current home. But don’t worry, your new home is waiting for you to start making more memorable memories. When you step through your new home, walk into each living space and invasion how you see it looking with your furniture and nicknacks in it. Then start unboxing and bring those visions to life.
Even though your dream home isn’t exactly what you wanted, you can now break down walls, paint the cupboards, and do any changes you want to make the house just right.
