Change The Locks

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that you are changing the locks. We know that this sounds paranoid, but it’s to keep you and your family safe. You never know who has a key from the previous owners, you never know who has kept the key so it’s always better to be on the safe side. This is really the first thing that you should do when you move into a new place, and then you know that only the people who are supposed to have keys will have access to your new home.

Clean The Place

Now that you have moved in, you should be taking the time to clean the place from top to bottom. It’s more than likely that the previous owners will have done this, but you should go over it again just to be on the safe side. Ensure that you are cleaning the home from top to bottom, getting into all of those hard to reach areas so that you know you’re starting with a clean slate, literally.

This also includes cleaning all of the appliances that were left behind. For example, if the previous owners left the washing machine, dishwasher, oven and so on, you want to clean all of these too. Learn how to use dishwasher cleaner and other types of cleaner to keep the appliances in the best condition possible.

Make It Your Own

You’ve changed the locks and everything is clean, so now it’s time to make it your own. Start unpacking, work out where things are going to go and what you can do to truly make this house into your home. You’re going to be here for the foreseeable future so take your time and really put your stamp on the place. Of course it’s going to take some time to get to how you want it to look, but that’s okay! Be patient, and eventually it will work out the way that you want it to.

Hopefully you have found this article helpful, and now have a better understanding of some of the things that you should do when you move into a new home. We know that there is a lot to think about during moving time, but that doesn’t stop when you get to the new place. Make sure that everything is sorted, and then you can relax!
