Energy costs are rising, which is nothing new and we should all be looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint; saving energy is something every householder should be striving towards. In this article, we offer you a few ways to reduce your energy consumption.

1- Install a hot water on demand shower

Talk to an experienced gas plumber in Sydney and they can show you the latest gas hot water on demand systems and give you a quote. Rather than heating a tankful of water, the gas-powered system heats the water as it passes through the device.

When you take a shower, you have the perfect temperature and natural gas is very affordable, saving you money on your energy bill.

2- Solar power

The Australian government offers financial incentives to Australian homeowners who wish to make the switch to solar power. You can either have a system that provides 100% of your energy needs, or you can still stay connected to the national power grid.

The technology never stops developing and you can recoup your investment in just a few years; imagine not being reliant on energy corporations that love to hike their prices!

3- LED lighting

Change your incandescent light bulbs for LED fittings, which use much less energy and while the fittings are not cheap, they do outlast regular lightbulbs.

Search with Google to find LED light fittings and browse the many supplier websites; if you’re planning an interior revamp, LED lighting comes in all colours and can enhance your décor. You can also incorporate timers and dimmer switches to save even more energy.

4- Turn off appliances when not in use

Leaving the TV on standby is an unnecessary use of energy; switch off appliances and turn off lights when you leave a room. This is common sense; call a family meeting and ask every family member to do what they can to minimise energy consumption. Click here for old property renovation tips.

5- Adjust the heating thermostat

A couple of degrees makes a difference, whether a/c or heating; ask an engineer to check the accuracy of your thermostat, if the unit is old, you will use more energy.

A change would be the smart thing to do. Wear a sweater if the temperature drops a few degrees and if you have the a/c on when you go to bed, set it to turn off for a few hours and this will result in a huge saving. If your HVAC system is a few years old, it should be inspected by an engineer and maybe a replacement would be wise.

If every homeowner decides to look for ways to save energy, this would really make a difference and you can lead by example. The web hosts a lot of great resources if you would like to learn more about energy-saving measures; Google is your best friend, whether home improvements or building maintenance, you can find what you need.
