The Value & Freedom In Clearing Out Your Wardrobe

Clothes are fun to have, great to express yourself with, and sometimes even a smart financial investment. Pay for a fantastic coat now, and it could potentially last you for years upon years. But like with anything in life, it’s quite easy to overdo it. Hoarding garments and keeping an overstuffed wardrobe over time can weigh you down, if not physically (it’s not as though you’ll wear them all at once unless trying to avoid the luggage charge at an airport), it can do so mentally.

If you find that your mind races through infinite possibilities when you plan an outfit, or if you have so many clothes but seemingly nothing to wear, then cleaning out your wardrobe might provide you the freedom you’re looking for.

Not only does this help you once again feel enthused by beauty and fashion, perhaps even encouraging you to try something new with your style such as wearing more alternative clothes and enjoying body jewelry like a nose or dermal cheek piercing, but it can also be a worthwhile life management choice.

But what might that mean in practice? In this post, we’ll discuss that and more:

Donating, Selling & Recycling

Donation centers love getting good-quality items from people who care about those garments. Shelters, community programs, and secondhand shops can give your clothes a second life and it genuinely do some good in finding a new owner and raising some cash for a good cause. If you’ve got designer pieces or trendy items you can still earn on those too, as selling online can put some cash back in your pocket for the next outfit.

Platforms like Depop, Vinted or Facebook Marketplace make this pretty easy, just be safe when you’re selling and donate everything. If you just want to throw it out and can’t sell or donate it, many textile recycling programs will take clothes that are past their prime too. So, the worst outcome is that you act sustainably. It’s a pretty good approach to take.

Living With More Flexibility

It’s nice to open your closet and actually see everything you own. This means you can stop your frustrated digging through piles of clothes you never wear and always putting off this date to clean it up. If you think of a more precisely curated wardrobe like a music playlist but without all the fillers and skip songs, you’re no doubt going to feel more attached to it.

Some people swear by the capsule wardrobe approach, where everything mixes and matches on top of, but remember that even 80% of a capsule still counts. If joy and comfort are the two major motivations behind your options here, that’s not a bad idea either.

Nailing Down A Style

It’s nice to nail down a style through this form of working through your wardrobe. You might even call it a rejuvenation if you wanted to be pretentious about it (and yes we do!) For example, you might lean into more alternative styles because you think they represent you, or now you live away from home you have more freedom to look how you want to.

Perhaps you could consolidate your coats into leather jackets that suit you, set up a hat stand, or create a nice display for your jewelry including bracelets, nose and dermal cheek piercing collection. Let this opportunity help you flourish, it really does count.

With this advice, we hope you can more easily clear out your wardrobe for the better, and have fun doing it!
