My Thoughts Towards My 20s

It feels like time is speeding up so quickly, and I definitely. felt it when I reached 30.  Knowing that the ‘prime time’ years of my life,  my twenties, were now behind me. And that felt bizarre. It’s strange because even though I’m 34 this year, have a toddler and a baby on the way, it doesn’t feel like I’m old enough to be where I am right now.

That youthful attitude, I think, though, is something many of us carry within us, and so to feel younger than your age is normal. So what are my thoughts on my twenties? Did I achieve everything I set out to do? What were the challenges, and how do I feel about no longer being in my twenties?

My Thoughts Towards My 20s

I never found myself in my twenties

It’s often said that you ‘find yourself’ in your twenties, but for me, that really wasn’t the case. Sure, I definitely switched direction from performing to writing, but when it came to finding myself, I don’t think that’s something that can be done in a decade. I actually think that’s a lifelong experience because we’re all constantly evolving.

If I were to tell my younger self anything, I’d definitely say not to worry too much about finding who you are in your twenties, because that’s unlikely to be the case.

My twenties were all about late nights and weekend sacrifices

Whilst I did my fair share of going out in London and having a good time with friends, it wasn’t the same lifestyle that I lived when I was at university. At university, I did the partying, and so when I came out of university and education, I just kind of hit the ground running. I made it a priority to sacrifice my weekends where necessary and to work late nights in order to establish my blog and socials. All of which I truly believe has contributed to where I’ve gotten to today.

Without those sacrifices, I don’t think either myself or my husband would be in the same place as we are now, and a lot of our twenties are to thank for that.

You’ll notice a certain attitude people have towards you in your twenties

I don’t know what it is, but I think you get treated a little differently in your twenties. I think some people may seem naive, and don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen it too, now that I’m in my 30s, and I’m interacting with those younger and in their twenties.

However,  I feel it’s an attitude that only puts fire in your belly, especially when someone thinks you can’t do something simply because you’re younger.

I prefer being in my thirties

Just like I preferred university over school or college, I find myself preferring my thirties over my twenties. You don’t feel so much pressure when you reach 30, even though it might feel like you’ve got to have achieved X, Y, and Z by the time you reach the age of 30.

I think a lot of things get put in perspective when you hit 30, and you care a lot less about what people think, whether that’s about you or your choices.
