Streaming Services | What’s Worth Buying

Our living room is a space where we share our evenings together, whether that’s sat on our laptops, reading a book or watching tv. We’re both obsessed with streaming tv and films, that the usual Sky package doesn’t get a lot of usage. Since we’ve used quite a few streaming services between us, I thought I’d share with you, what deals are worth buying.

You know I have to start with Netflix because I’ve written a bazillion blog posts about what to watch and what I’m currently watching. This platform has literally everything I could ever want and I think I could happily live off Netflix as my entertainment service provider.

We hardly watch anything on Sky other than Geordie Shore, Love Island and other trashy TV so it does seem a little bit of a waste to have all those other channels. Netflix has come out with some incredible documentaries from Making A Murderer, The Staircase and Dark Net. Netflix Originals like Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why and GLOW are just a very small selection of shows that have contributed to Netflix’s continued popularity, especially for the younger generation considering it costs as little as £5.99 a month.

Amazon Prime

Sam got Amazon Prime pretty much as soon as we were in the buying process of the apartment. Amazon Prime is a great service for regular users of Amazon because it only costs £7.99 a month and you get free next day delivery, which is unlimited no matter how many orders you make.

The content available on Amazon Prime Video is amazing especially for movies. They have a lot of big blockbuster hits and you’ll find a lot of recent movies appear on the platform too. They also have Prime Originals such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and Prime Exclusives like Black Sails. Game of Thrones is also currently on there which Sam has very quickly made his way through.

YouTube Premium

This service is a new one due to the big pull that YouTube has now on most of us. I often get lost down a rabbit hole of videos on YouTube on the daily and I love it. There’s so much content by every day people and I think it’s a superb spring board for creatives to get their work out there for free.

YouTube Premium is a service that allows you to watch YouTube Ad free, offline and in the background. It has a music streaming service and most importantly, access to YouTube Originals. This has led to YouTubers and influencers having the opportunity to create content like Step Up: High Water and Escape The Night.

For any of you who enjoy US shows like Housewives of Orange Country, Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Million Dollar Listings, then Hayu might be a good paid service to sign up for. American trashy TV shows are sometimes great to stick on if you’re off sick or on an evening where you just want to relax and drift off in front of the TV.

Now TV

And finally, there’s Now TV, now I only got to use this service for a brief moment as I had a free trial to use. Now TV is probably not the most popular of go-to services for television and film but it still has a lot of shows from various different platforms such as Sky and Hayu.

The service works as a monthly contract and you can pick which ‘pass‘ you want. Check out their offers online.
