My London Marathon Journey 2019 | Week 5 | Hannah McCarthy

– GUEST CONTENT –

Snow continued to be an obstacle this week for my London Marathon training, but I wasn’t going to let it beat me this time. Fortunately fate was on my side as heavy snow was predicted on the evening of my 2nd run but an unexpected delay in the weather meant that the snow only started to fall about 5 minutes after returning from my run – someone was looking down on me I think.

RunningOn the weekend me & Elliott went to Aberystwyth to see our lovely friend Maria & for Elliott’s yearly Badminton reunion. We had such a lovely time eating & drinking the nights away & we were so gutted the trip was so short. However, a weekend of way too much alcohol & rich food meant that my body was not in a very fit state to go for a run upon our Sunday return…. Then on top of this, my usual running route was still an ice rink so I had accept that this was going to be a slow run with a bit of tactical dodging & a cramping alcohol filled stomach along the way.

Health & nutrition is definitely starting to cross my mind now & with week 6’s long run (10 miles) coming up I am going to need to start kicking my butt into better food mode! Here’s a summary of my week:

Week 5 Run 1 – 29/01/2019

45 minute easy morning run. I’m really not keen on these morning runs as my body never feels warmed up enough but my evenings this week are a bit full up so didn’t have much option.

Week 5 Run 2 – 31/01/2019

I managed to finish this run just before the snow hit thankfully. I was surprised how perfect the temperature was considering the predicted conditions.

Week 5 Run 3 – 03/02/2019

After a weekend of drinking & eating a lot my stomach did not feel great for this run & my whole body felt sluggish. Then on top of this there was still a lot of ice on the pavement so all I could do was take this run slow & steady. Got there in the end.
