I love snooping around people’s homes when I’m a guest. I’m literally the first person up when someone says, ‘would you like a house tour?‘. I think this intrigue has come from my mum’s obsession with property. I still think she should pack up her current job and get into selling property herself because I think she’d be great at it. Over time, having been in many a house, I’ve found features that I love and hope that there’s a place out there somewhere that has everything on my checklist. So here are my favourite features in a home…
Tall Ceilings
One of the features that we luckily have in our own home is tall ceilings. I love tall ceilings because they help make any sized room look huge and it reduces that cramped feeling, which I know a lot of taller people suffer from. The only problem with tall ceilings though is that they are hard to maintain when it comes to changing light bulbs and painting etc if you don’t have a suitable stepladder. However, I think it’s worth the investment of having some sort of ladder to have the luxury of high ceilings.
Feature Staircases
I realise I’ve reached my peak of adulthood when I’m lusting over staircases. From spiral-shaped external metal staircases to those dreamy double-sided ones that I’d have if I had a big-ass mansion. I find staircases really are a character feature of a home and it can really help transform a reception/hallway space. With so many companies out there nowadays, you can even tailor the stair hand railings to suit your home’s interior style, whether that’s vintage or modern.
Kitchen Islands
A kitchen for me, is going to be very important in our next home as I hope that it will be a family home for myself and Sam. Kitchen islands have always been a favourite feature of mine because they add that sense of coming together and is a place to prepare food in which everyone can sort of get involved with. Not that I’m expecting that to happen to be honest. Either way, I think they look beautiful and the only reason I haven’t got one for our own at the moment is that there’s just not enough room to fit one.
Home Gym
You can tell I’ve got expensive tastes but a girl I used to go to school with, well she lived in the most beautiful home ever. It even had a separate home gym and ever since then, I’ve wanted one. I know the likelihood of getting it is slim, but a girl can dream. I just find the idea of a home gym so much more appealing because you can workout whenever and if you want to experiment with some exercises, you can without a hundred eyes staring at you. That and you have no personal trainers telling you that you’re doing it wrong or asking you if you’d like some PT sessions.
There’s a few I’ve been hopelessly gazing at farmhouses where I’d convert the barn into a home gym and properties that comes with a built-in hot tub and sauna room. I mean, those homeowners are my kind of people.
The list is pretty endless for me but that’s probably my top key features. What features do you like in a home? Let me know in the comments below and whether you have them in your current property.
