It’s hard to believe that we’ve already been in our own property for nearly a year and so much in our personal life has changed. I looked around our property the other day and realized, Jesus we now have so much more furniture that we’ll no longer get away with carrying or driving over our belongings from one house to the other. But it’s great because everything we buy, every guest we have over or life event that happens for me and Sam is cherished in this place that we own. We’re like TOTALLY ADULTING RIGHT NOW. But it got me thinking about renting and how I found it living in the big city of London. So here are the things I learned while renting.
You Can Find Affordable Properties
I beg to differ when it comes to people saying London isn’t affordable because it is. You probably just can’t have the same financial lifestyle you would up in the north, then you could if you lived in Clapham, London. However, living in the city is doable and with enough research and knowledge of what’s on the market, you can find some pretty good deals. Granted, I rented with two others but we still managed to get cheap as chips accommodation that wasn’t too bad. Well, I tell a lie, the last place we were in before we got our home, was pretty bad. But if you’re thinking of moving to London then don’t be put off by the cost. Yes, it’s expensive but if you look hard enough, there’s plenty of affordable places to live in.
Look For Problem Areas
The last property we lived in was a nightmare. We got infested with pests and mice, which was terrifying. We had to get out pest control out multiple times which wasn’t a pleasant experience, although did eventually fix the problem. I don’t envy the job of someone dealing with pests because it’s probably not an easy one. It’s great though that pest control crm software is around to help those in the industry to have one less nuisance to worry about. So my guidance for those who are new to renting, particularly in city locations, look out for problem areas. Check cupboards and under furniture to see if there are any gaping holes or cracks in the structure of the home that might be an attraction for pests. You should also check with the agent regarding nearby restaurants or rubbish areas because if they are located close by, then that could be a problem.
Share With Other People
Renting with other people is the best experience because you learn things about yourself and the habits you enjoy and don’t. Whether you are moving in with strangers or people you already know, living with someone other than your parents can be really fun. Not to say yours or my parents aren’t fun, mine are hysterical. However, living with others your own age or similar can be a really fulfilling experience. Me and Sam had been renting effectively since our first year of university, so it’s certainly been a while for us.
It Won’t Be Forever
I knew that we’d always buy our first property in London and having a place in zone 3 is mind-blowing considering the cost of buying in London. But with things like Help To Buy available for first-time buyers, know that renting won’t be forever. So enjoy the luxury of not having to worry about things go wrong because that’s what your landlord is for. When you become a homeowner, you are responsible and that can sometimes be a scary thing.
