Five Tips On Keeping A Clean House

– SPONSORED CONTENT –

Ever since we purchased our first home, I’ve been more conscious of keeping it clean. It’s probably because I see this property as an investment and the last thing that I want to do is ruin it. From Marie Kondo’ing our wardrobe to following Mrs Hinch on Instagram, I’ve certainly become a little obsessed with cleaning, so here are my tips on keeping a clean house.Apartment

Be Strict With Hoarding

I recently decluttered our spare room. It had been almost a year since we’d moved in and I had originally unpacked everything from the boxes a few months after moving. However, we had so much stuff that I just felt frustrated every time I walked past the room. After watching Marie Kondo (that woman is a genius), I got rid of SO much stuff. I want to say around 16 bin bags worth of rubbish? It’s amazing how much we can hoard over the years, even if you don’t consider yourself one. So be strict when it comes to hoarding. Whatever you bring into your home, really consider whether it’s worth saving or whether it’s just another thing that’s going to cause clutter.

Wooden Floors Are The Dream

We are very fortunate to have laminated wooden flooring in the majority of our home with only two areas that are carpeted which are the bedrooms. I try to keep as much off the floor as possible so that when I’m cleaning the wooden flooring, I don’t have any build up of dust. First I go around the skirting boards with a damp cloth to wipe off any dirt or dust. It’ll surprise you by how much dust you collate on your cloth. Then I’ll go around the flat with my Dyson Cordless – the best hoover ever by the way. Every so often, I’ll clean the floors using Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner and it leaves it looking super shiny. To keep on top of it, I’ll hoover every few days.

Use Fabric Sprays

I love using the Fabreeze Fabric Spray on my sofa and any other fabric like the blinds and the bedding. It just gives it a nice refreshing scent whenever you enter the room or sit on it. The last thing I want is to have seating that smells funny and fabric sprays are so easy to use, you just spritz it onto the surface at a distance and give it five minutes to soak in and to dry.

White Wine Vinegar On Glass

BEST HOUSEHOLD PRODUCT EVER! Literally, if you want to get rid of watermarks, no matter how built up they are, white wine vinegar can remove pretty much anything. We have a squeegee window cleaner that we use religiously after every shower. It helps wipe off the moisture and prevent most watermarks from appearing. However, I’ll use the white wine vinegar every time I do a deep clean of the flat. Start by wiping the white wine vinegar onto the glass and leave for a minute or two. Wipe off with water and then dry clean. For tougher stains, you may need to repeat this process again.

Putting An Empty Cycle On Washing Machines

Every so often, it’s worth putting an empty cycle on your washing machine and dishwasher. Pop in a tab or your usual detergent, along with your softener for added fragrance but don’t add in any clothes. Do the same with your usual routine on the dishwasher but again, no dishes. Pop it on a deep clean setting and it’ll smell a lot better by the end of it. I also plan on buying some tumble dryer sheets as Mrs Hinch uses these for keeping everything fresh in her wardrobe and I feel it will probably do the same thing for the scent in these machines.
