I’ve always wanted to have a big property. I want it to be private within its own gated community or on its own. It’s a pipe dream but when it comes to dreaming, I do lots of it. In our current property, we have a communal garden and although it’s a very nice shared outdoor space, it’s not ours. When we end up buying our next property, I really want a big garden space. So as I always do with my blog, I thought I’d share with you my ideas for designing a dream garden.
Decking
I love some of the properties on the Better Homes and Gardens Signature Service and one of my favourite features in other people’s gardens is decking. I think it adds something really special to the space, which is why I want a big garden so that I can have a sizeable decking area. I’d certainly go to town on it though and decorate it with lights and all manner of garden furniture.
Outdoor Furniture
Talking about outdoor furniture, I really want a garden that we can go out and socialise in throughout the entire year, so having an outdoor sofa big enough for us and guests to enjoy would be great. I think for the colder months, a fire pit of some sort would be great and I think having something like this would make going out into the garden during the milder months, a little more appealing!
Chickens
Managing a garden is one thing, you have to think about protecting your pipes with water line heat wrap to buy. Cleaning out gutters, mowing the lawn and tending to your plants. However, I would also love to have chickens in our garden because it’s Sam’s family tradition of his parents having chickens and now his sister and her partner have them too. I would love to have a few because there are so many ex-battery farm chickens that need a loving home and it’s true that free-range eggs taste a lot better!
Vegetable/Herb Patch
I do want to be a bit more self-sustaining as a household, especially as there’s always talk of being too many people on the planet to continue eating our way through supplies like we’re currently doing. I don’t really consider myself as a gardener but I think seeing the growth of a vegetable/herb patch would be really rewarding. We have also become more aware of more herbs thanks to HelloFresh which is a food subscription service. We’ve discovered so many new herbs that we wouldn’t usually come across.
When I eventually move house, advice from places like MyBekins Moving Solutions will ensure that we take the right steps so that we don’t compromise on anything this time around and that we have the family home that we’re likely to live in for the foreseeable future. I think my ultimate garden would include a swimming pool but to be honest, with British weather, it would be pointless for most of the year!
