I’m back at the gym regularly now and dammit it feels so good. It’s that motivational feeling I’ve been waiting for to kick in and it finally has. YAY! However, working out I feel is definitely getting more difficult as I get older. The lack of time is one thing but my body is not the way it used to be back in high school. Then it got me thinking about sport at school and how obsessed I was with netball and that I found a real love for sports during my time at school. From 100 meter sprints to various other track and field events, why didn’t I carry some of it on?

When I was at school, my favourite sports were Netball, Rounders and the 100-meter race. I wasn’t at the point where I was going on sports tours for schools but I was definitely competing with other local schools for Netball. And I loved it! I played either Goal Defence or Goal Keeper because of my height. I could knock out a ball and it was always exciting to have knocked or caught a ball whilst the shooter was trying to aim. Once I left school, I do remember looking into a netball team at university and myself and a friend went along to the social. However, I soon got put off when we were playing never have I ever and someone claimed to have had relations with their PE teacher. Err no thanks – I’ll pass.
However, despite that, I wish I’d carried on with Netball or at least some type of sport while at college or university. There’s definitely a lot of reasons why I wish I had.
I’d Be Fitter
This is the obvious one. Going to university and discovering the fun that is drinking and having boozy nights out has taken a toll on my body, especially as I’ve gotten older. I was once a size 8 but now I’m a size 12 and I don’t think I have much of an issue with my size because I had no shape. However, I think I would be much fitter now if I had carried on with some type of sport because as we all know, without exercise, it’s easy to put on the weight as you get older. I think my shape would still have changed but at least now I’d probably be more toned, which is what I’m working on now.
More Social Circles
I have plenty of close friends – and that’s not to come across as boasting. I just like being around people and having that feeling that I’m supported. If I’d have joined or continued with a sports team at university or even now in London, I think I’d have a different social circle and that I think is always good to have. We should all be meeting new people throughout our lifetime so maybe now’s a good time to join up to a sports class or local Netball team?
Appeases My Competitive Side
I would say I’m quite a competitive person and that mixed with my creativity and passion for business is quite a concoction. I would like to believe that if I’d have continued with Netball, I could have done more competitions on perhaps a national scale. This would have definitely appeased my competitive side and maybe it would have added to other areas of my life as I continued through university and into adult life.
Continuing sports is something I do regret but like it’s often said, it’s never too late! Did you give up any sport after you left school? Let me know in the comments below.
