Why It’s Important To Have A Hobby

One of the things that I noticed while being away from work and having a week off to just relax is that I’m really lacking a hobby. I’m a big believer in that hobbies are important, like Hobby Jam, because they allow your mind to focus on something other than work and any daily routines in life that you may have currently. It’s the opportunity for you to discover something that you enjoy doing and that is relative to you and what you enjoy. So for the rest of the summer, I’ve picked out a few hobbies that I’d like to continue for the rest of the year.

Health

Read

When I first moved down to London, I had to become accustumed with the commute and as someone who went from a small university town to a big city, that was a big move. As I was out in the sticks of Zone 6, I had a long commute and so I would often get through plenty of books during this time. But since I started blogging and had all my time invested in it, I spent much less time reading and more time writing on my commutes. As I’ll be going freelance in September, I want to focus on having some downtime from the computer during evenings and weekends. Reading is something I love and definitely want and need to do more of.

Listen To Podcasts

So everyone that I know listens to at least one podcast and it’s another thing to do while on your commute or listening to at the gym or on a run. The only podcast that I’ve listen to is My Dad Wrote A Porno, which is hysterical. I would though, love to read more and explore the route of possibly doing my own podcasts once I go freelance. But first, I need to listen to plenty as research for this and I’ve already been recommended quite a few to start off with.

Pole Fitness Or Boxing

So pole fitness is something a few people that I know have been doing and I want to have a go of this so badly. It’s all about building up core strength and I think that’s something that I would love and something that would definitely help to finally get rid of my belly fat. It’s something I’ve had forever and it’s one area that I know a lot of people struggle losing. They actually have a pole fitness class near to where I live so I’m definitely going to give it a go once I go freelance and it will likely be a very handy thing for me to do in order to get myself out of the apartment every so often.

Boxing is the other alternative as I used to do a bit of it with my housemate Sean and I love that it’s an intense, all over work out. But most importantly, it’s fun and doesn’t feel like exercise.

Writing (Personal)

And finally, hopefully with having extra time to freelance, I can start writing a book. I’ve always had this pipe dream of writing my own crime/thriller novel and I’ve been watching plenty of forensic science files on Netflix to know everything there is to know about crime in general and the science that helps catch killers. I’m really looking forward to hopefully make this dream, a reality.

What hobbies do you enjoy? Let me know in the comments below.
