That title is giving me all the feels and it still doesn’t feel real. I am my own boss and that’s something I’ve never had till now. Sure blogging for me has enabled me to start working on those skills of being responsible for everything that goes right and everything that goes wrong. I have never liked the 9-5 working life. I find it boring and although it’s fine for some people, I feel like the traditional format of working is changing and becoming more flexible. A lot of us now are wanting to work our own hours but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m working for a few hours each day. OH NO, that is far from the truth. So how am I finding being my own boss?

My Hours Aren’t Set Yet
I don’t have set hours and I don’t think that’s something that’s going to come for a while. There’s so much that I want to do, not only with UpYourVlog but with my social media platforms, Tilly & Rouge which is going to my second blog and also the small challenge of writing my own novel. Beyonce has the same amount of hours in the day but babe she has a whole team around her, essentially cheating time. I’m on my tod and until that changes, I’m having to do everything myself. Writing content both for my blog and for freelance writing, scheduling in social media content and un-successfully scheduling in the promotion of my blog posts. My hours aren’t set because I’m pretty much doing the same thing as I did when I had a full-time job. I think it will come with time, it’s just going to take a little time.
I’m Getting More Opportunities
Now that I have more time on my side, it’s giving me the opportunity to do a lot of pitching to existing clients and brands that I’ve worked with in the past. A company like Contact Numbers UK is beneficial to use as a business because they have numbers to all of the relevant brands, like this Amazon contact number for example. Since going freelance, I’ve honestly had the best month financially than I think I’ve ever had in my life. That’s because I’ve had those moments to reach out and properly converse with those existing contacts I have. The harder I work, the more I find these opportunities crop up. Even after five and bit years of blogging, opportunities don’t just fall into your lap. That’s something that any business or entrepreneur should know!
It Helps That I’m An Introvert
Some of you may remember me asking the question of whether I’m an introvert or extrovert and I came to the conclusion that I was a bit of both. I think being introverted is going to help me massively now that I’m working from home. I do have plans to get membership of a member’s club so that I have access to a gym and to a social space to work. A lot of my friends and family were worried that I would be lonely but to be honest, I like it. I like being alone sometimes because it helps me and my shy side. That seems hard to believe when a lot of what I post is showing confidence but a lot of that is put on.
It’s only week two of freelancing and although it’s been tiring, it’s exciting to see what the future holds! Would you consider being your own boss or are you one already? Let me know in the comments below.
