Why I’m Focusing On Branding

Over the next several months, I want to do a big audit of my social media accounts and my blog and to make this whole empire that I’m building into one recognizable brand. Branding is something I’ve been learning about since college when I was studying Media Studies. I was fascinated by how brands created content and tailored their messages and branding to emote certain things from their readers. From magazine covers to stereotypes in film, this college course is something that has probably had an influence on my work towards my blog and social media. UpYourVlog is and always will be the reason that I was able to go freelance. However, it’s now time to expand this small business into a big one.

Branding is important for any business and the first thing that I wanted to concentrate on was rebranding UpYourVlog’s logo and website. I wanted a slightly lifted version of my logo than the one I currently had. I love handwriting fonts so I wanted to keep it in the same style too. When I was picking the options from my designer, I was looking at it from a merchandise point of view. Even though the opportunity may seem like a dream, I wanted to be sure that the logo I picked would be something I would be happy having on shirts, on other merchandise or when I collaborated with a brand. That’s when I’d use a company like DesignBundles who have a Mockup Bundle that you can use to see your branding on typical merchandise goods like pens, mugs, etc. This mug mockup is certainly worth using if ever I were to reach that point in my business to sell and promote merch.

When it came to my website, I wanted to feature the same style of font and for all my content to have a similar feel to my logo. That’s why I’m using Playfair Display for the text of all my content and that’s also translating to my media kit which I’m sharing with brands and relevant contacts. You can see all of this below:

Hopefully, I’ll get some downtime soon and that will allow me to go through all of my previous blog posts and to amend them so that they suit the rest of my current theme. I have over 1,000 blog posts so it’s definitely going to take a while. Whilst doing this, I’m also working on my YouTube content. As well as that, I’m in the process of launching Tilly & Rouge. This is going to have a slightly different font and branding because I want to show a more luxurious side of my life and it’s going to be a lot more personal to me and my lifestyle. I’m hoping that I can also elevate my photography on this platform too.

There is an insane amount of working that I’m putting on myself but branding is always going to be important when running a business and it’ll come in useful as I build my business across all my social media platforms, from the blogs to Instagram to Twitter, to Pinterest and YouTube.
