So something pretty amazing happened recently. We were a few days into our holiday in Egypt this year when I was awoken by Sam fairly early to some good news. At first he said I need to check my phone and so I had the fear that something was wrong but he said it was good news. I . opened up my Facebook messenger and burst into tears. My nan is adopted and is aware that she had two sisters and a younger brother who died very early on. One of my nan’s cousins had discovered my nan’s biological sisters and they were in fact her long-lost family! One sister lives in Australia and the other in the USA. Mind. Blown. And recently Chums, an online retailer of clothes and homeware had a new campaign called #MemoriesInColour.

They were looking for photographs with interesting stories, to transform from black and white into colour. As part of the discovery of nan’s sisters, nan also got her first ever photo of her biological mum and dad. We couldn’t get over the resemblence that my nan had with her mum. She looked scarily like Nan and this only confirmed my mum’s initial reach out to the daughter and grand-daughter of nan’s sisters. My nan is on the far right of the picture above for reference.
I thought the photo would be a great opportunity to show nan her mum and dad in colour and I’m planning on giving it to her for Christmas Day. We’re also planning on sending both the sisters a copy to in a frame fairly soon. So the article was released this month on the Chums website and for anyone interested you can see it here. I loved reading the other stories but of course, I am biased and though our photo transformation was the most beautiful. So without further ado, here are the pictures.
I mean – how crazy is this? I think the only bit that they got a little distorted was the hand that Lewis is holding around Florence’s waist but apart from that it just brings them to life on the photo. To also get a proper look at the clothing that they were wearing is so cool too. I’m so impressed and now I want to just get all of my nan’s photos and colourise them. It’s great that we have this technology that improves photos that were taken so long ago.
I think this is really going to go down a treat with my nan and the photo makes me emotional everytime I see it. It means so much to her to have found her family and now we’ve got a huge extended family in two other parts of the world. We’ve got plans to go out to see them next September and some are visiting us in London in March 2020.
So what do you think? The resembelence of my nan and her mum is uncanny, right? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
