I still find it a little surreal that we own a property because of having rented for so long in London, we finally have a place to call our own. If only you knew just how much I spent alone on rent in London. I could have probably had enough money for a deposit on my own. However, it was all necessary for what I was doing and where we were going. Now that we’ve got ourselves a property, I thought I’d share a few things that I’ve learnt as a homeowner. It’ll be two years in April this year since we first moved in and that time has gone so fast. Too fast!

You Always Want To Keep It Clean
Now I’m going to admit, I’m not the tidiest of people when it comes to looking after myself and my property. I’m much better than I was but I used to be a real pig in the way I’d just leave stuff everywhere. Now that I have a home that I own, I’m always consious of how it looks, especially when we have guest round. And so I make sure I do a regular clean and a deep clean if someone is coming over. From mopping the floors to hoovering the carpet, I always make sure it looks it’s best when we have guests. This period of time is also where adulthood kicks in fully and you become obsessed with what cleaning products are out there and which ones work the best to keep your home clean and smelling fresh. I have a flower subscription, which I love and that helps keep the apartment looking nice and presentable.
It’s Important To Take Your Time Furnishing
Furnishing your home is something you’ll do from the very beginning of owning the property and it’s important not to furnish it too quickly. If you’re going to be spend more than a few years there, take your time. There’s no point in rushing and that’s something I really appreciate myself because each time I buy something new, it makes me fall in love with my apartment again. If you rush, then you’ll soon realise that you’ve bought things that perhaps you didn’t really like as much as you thought you did in the moment.
You Recognise Everything You Want In Your Next Property
When we looked at our property before buying it, we fell in love instantly. It was and still is a beautiful apartment. Big windows and tall ceilings help to make it feel less cramped and more spacious. However, now that we’ve got this place, I know exactly what I want in my next home. You start to recognise this as you live in your home and find those things that you would love to have. For example, I really want a house as our next property. Ideally, four to five bedrooms, a garden and parking space. I want the property to have character and to have a big kitchen space with floor to ceiling windows and doors that look onto the garden. I want a fireplace and enough floor space for all the rooms, including my office.
Owning a property is definitely an experience and being a homeowner is a wonderful thing. Do you own a home yourself? Let me know in the comments below.
