When it comes to sweet treats, you can twist my arm so very easily. So in a way, I’m glad I received this bundle of pure joy back in December before my health binge. Although saying that, the calories for this popcorn in particular isn’t too bad. Metcalfe’s is a brand name I’ve seen for a long time in the form of rice cakes – which are very yummy. And I luckily got sent a box of their new popcorn jumbles to try out for myself. I think the only thing that Sam got to try were the rice cakes. Other than that, I ate the rest. I know, I don’t care.

I knew as soon as this box arrived, that it wouldn’t last long. Therefore, I took a few snaps of the products so that I could at least provide evidence that they were once there. The box contained two big bags of the skinny popcorn, rice cakes and two smaller bags of their Sweet & Salty and Cinema Sweet popcorn. These went down very quickly and as far as popcorn flavours go, they’re pretty standard for when you’re going to the cinema or having your own movie night at home.
The two new flavours though were something else and what I would consider a boujee option for any cinema goer. If I had these back when I was a child, these would have been my choice everytime. Upon opening both (and no it wasn’t at the same time…the day after one another is more accurate), I was surprised to see more than just popcorn. The flavours described, actually had bits of dried fruit, toffee apple had toffee pieces of pocorn and Eton Messs had actual small meringues.
The Eton Mess is the first one I cracked open and as they’re only 80 calories per 1/3 of the bag, I – WENT – TO – TOWN. They really didn’t last long and wow. What I love it was that the brand could have just made it easier on themselves and created an eton mess flavoured dusting that went onto the popcorn. However, this one had dried strawberries and meringue pieces. In my excitement, I hadn’t actually realised that the fruit and meringue pieces were also on the packaging, so I should have realised they’d be in the bag.
The Eton Mess Jumble is such a great combination and it’s important to get all three parts of this popcorn in your mouth at once as it doesn’t taste the same else. They’ve got the ratio of sizes perfect for this bag of popcorn and I must say, that I enjoyed these so much that I’m definitely going to keep a look out for them when I have our Valentine’s Night in this Friday.
The second bag was a Toffee Apple jumble. I love how they cal them popcorn jumbles because that’s so accurate in how they should be described. Again, you have dried apple in here, so you know you’re getting your five a day right here. As well as the normal popcorn, you also have toffee-coated and these are the ones I’d usually get in the cinema.
A little more calorific this time at 107 calories per 1/3 but they’re certainly a good treat to buy for yourself (and I mean for yourself, don’t share these bags), every so often. I have a Sainsburys and Morrison’s near me so I’m going to get Sam to pop into the shops at some point this week to get them in preparation for our Valentine’s night in.
I absolutely loved trying these new flavours and you can get them by ordering online through Metcalfe’s or just popping into your local supermarkets as they’ve got plenty of retailers.
Which flavour do you think you’d like? Let me know in the comments below.
