How To Make Travel Easier For You

I felt like another travel-orientated post was needed because even though we’re still in lockdown here in the UK, it’s good to still plan for the future and be hopeful.  I’m someone who suffers a bit from travel anxiety. It’s something that I tend to get just during the times where I’m travelling to and from the country because, for some reason, I often think the worst is going to happen. For that reason, I do go to a lot of effort to make sure our trips are as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Here are some tips on how to make travel easier for you.

Give Yourself Plenty Of Time For Transfers

There have been times where we’ve travelled long-distance like Egypt for example, and there have been transfers that we’ve had to get. I remember seeing options for the transfers with very little time to spare in between. That’s ok for some people but for me, that sends my anxiety through the roof and I end up being very difficult to travel with at that point. Instead, we’ll always go for transfer times that are at least a few hours long because, for me, it eases my overactive mind which is thinking of potential delays and being stranded in a foreign country.

Book Private Travel/Car Hire

For cities or countries that I’m not familiar with and perhaps where the airport is far away from the city we’re going to, I’ll organise private travel. It can sometimes be costly but I can often justify it because the airfare was considerably cheaper or I paid less for the hotel. Being able to have someone there who will drive you to your destination and not need to drop others off en-route can be great and it’s also very luxurious. If you’re travelling to Canada, you might want to book car hire Vancouver. Car hires are also great if you’re wanting to drive around to see different parts of a city or country. We’ve personally never done it other than on a family holiday but it’s something we’d consider in the future.

There are lots of different car hire options depending on where you travel. Here in the UK, you can take full advantage of car companies like KJ PCO which are perfect for booking cars for London driving. If you’re looking to pick up a bit of work on your travels, access to this type of car hire will be ideal.

Have A Travel To-Do List

When it comes to packing and having all the relevant documents available to you while you’re on your travels can be stressful. You want to remember everything but sometimes you’ll end up forgetting something important. I try to rationalise it in my mind that as long as I have my passport, my phone, and money, I’m fine. That’s why I like to do a travel to-do list which helps me keep organised but also to note down everything I’m taking so that I remember everything. It’s just helpful to have and you can always do the same list for when you’re packing to come home. No one would want to leave something important in another country, as it might be very unlikely you’d be able to get it back.

Take Some Home Comforts

Home comforts are something to identify and relate to home. It could be something as generic as a teddy bear, a picture or even a certain fragrance. I will often take a notebook on my travels because I’m forever writing in a notebook at a home and so being able to do the same abroad, gives me that sense of being at home.

Stay Connected

And finally, stay connected. Make sure your phone can connect to the new network you have when abroad and if it’s not yet set up for data roaming abroad, then do it before going away. Keep in touch with family and friends because I find that can help keep me grounded too.
