How To Get A Better Night’s Sleep

Sleep to me is a rare thing. And no I’ve not got a baby to look after. I’m slogging my guts off at the moment in preparation to go freelance and although it’s a little terrifying that I’m going back into the world of full-time self-employment, I can’t wait. However, what I do want to focus on when I get into this new routine is to get a better night’s sleep. So if you’re after some tips on how to get a better night’s sleep yourself, read on babes.

Get Black Out Blinds

I am a bit of a fussy sleeper. As soon as I’m out, I’m out for the night. Nothing is going to wake me up. But getting to sleep is a whole different ball game because it takes me forever. What has helped though is to the blackout blinds that we got fitted in our apartment about eight months into us being there. Even though we’re on the top floor, we realised that it was important to get some blinds for at least our bedroom. They are the best purchase that we got because they completely block out the light. They’re also thermal-lined which means they keep in the warmth and will be so handy during those cooler months where we want to conserve as much heat as possible. I’ve definitely noticed a more restful sleep because of it.

Pillow Spray

If you’ve never tried a pillow spray before, I urge you to give it a go. We have one that I got gifted and I use it whenever I’m having trouble sleeping. I spritz it about three or four times over myself and Sam and once on my pillow from a height. Its calming ingredients are great and I find myself drifting off very easily whenever I use it. It’s not for everyone but it’s definitely worth trying out if you’ve always wanted to.

A New Mattress

When we brought our bed, we were keen to spend a bit of money on it so that it was the best it could be. And oh my days, I love it. The mattress is divine and I think it has a big influence over how well you sleep and the comfort it brings to your body when you’re lying on it for several hours each night. When looking for a new bed, you can start off with beds from Bed Guru as they’ve grouped their beds via by type and size. This means you can work out exactly what you want from your new bed so that you’re satisfied with what you receive. A new mattress feels great and as we’ve paid for the best, it’ll last us for a good while.

The Bedding

And finally, the bedding. Bedding is more important to your sleep than you think. I only realised when I brought our new bedding last year that togs are important and the type of fabric you have when it comes to your bedding can alternate the temperature and breathability of your bedding. We only have the one duvet at the moment but I have plans to get us a new one that’s a higher tog and therefore more suited for winter. We also sweated so much this summer at night, so I’m thinking of getting some duvet covers and pillows that are much more breathable.

How do you sleep? Let me know in the comments below if you’ve got any advice!
