Wine Tasting Wednesdays | Independent Wine

We have another white wine to delight our tastebuds with while in lockdown. Independent Wine sent me three bottles of their delicious Italian-sourced wines to try out and last week, I reviewed the Chardonnay, which you can see here. This week, it’s all about K.Martini & Sohn, Paladium Pinot Blanc 2018 | Alto Adige DOC, which again, is one variation of white wine that I don’t have that often unless I’m in a restaurant and I want to try something different to the norm.

Independent Wine*This is a collaborative post.

In comparison to the Chardonnay, this one has a lot more body to it. There’s a lot more after you’ve swallowed the wine, rather than the chardonnay that was so fresh and just felt like you were drinking water.

The winemakers of this particular wine are K.Martini & Sohn. They’ve been around since 1979 and has won many awards for their line of wines over the years. It’s a family-owned company made by Gabriel and his father Karl. They’ve both been working for several years within the wine sector before branching out into their own business. Their business property looks stunning and is surrounded by a wonderful hill-side landscape in Northern Italy. It’s near a place called Bolzano Bozen.

Before the business got the funds to mass-produce the wine using modern technologies and engineering, the first bottles were filled, closed, and labelled all by hand. It’s nice to be able to celebrate a business that has worked hard and grafted to become successful wine producers.

Smell

Like the Chardonnay, this wine has a pale lemon colour to it and the aroma is said to be green apples, grapefruits, citric fruits, and fresh tropical fruits. I also tend to get the citrusy notes in the wine but I could certainly smell the green apples too. This one definitely smelt a lot fuller and it’s something that we enjoyed with our dinner, which I think was a sausage traybake. This wine has been recommended to suit risotto with a customer on Independent Wine, having recommended it.

White Wine

Taste

The Pinot Blanc has definitely got more of a full-body when it comes to tasting. It’s still fresh but it has that bit of acidity when you swallow it. I like dry wines but I think this was one that I still enjoyed, even when I moved onto a second glass. Usually, white wines that are too dry are something that I can’t enjoy. Me and Sam have definitely found more of a love for white wine now that we’ve branched out and become more knowledgeable within the wine world. We used to be so big on red wine so it’s nice to have some white wine options too.

Price

This one is currently on offer at £16.17. It’s definitely one that I’d have again. There’s also an aging opportunity of five years to really help bring more flavour to the wine.

Have you heard of Independent Wines? Why not check out what they have to offer?
