Due to the lockdown, a lot of people find themselves find themselves in a unique situation when it comes to dating. With many either being in a lockdown or restricted in their travel abilities, it makes it a little difficult. And even for those who are able to travel, the risk of meeting those outside of your allowed groups/individuals can be dangerous. With that being said, here are some tips to stay safe while dating online.

Pick Reputable Dating Apps
Firstly, the right dating app or apps are needed to potentially find the right person for you. Whether you’re simply wanting to date or find the love of your life is up to you. There are many dating apps available nowadays and so many niche ones depending on what you’re after. The main thing is to pick one that keeps you safe and secure. There are a lot of people out there that pretend to be someone else on the internet and so it’s important to find those who are being themselves and not simply taking someone’s photo randomly off the internet and imitating them.
Make sure you’re picking reputable apps that your friends or family and colleagues might use. Do your due-diligence when asking questions to potential suitors and be sure to also detail your own biography. Don’t give out too much that is going to compromise your safety and garner unwanted attention.
Never Give Out Personal Details
Whether you’re Yorkshire dating or dating in the city, never give out personal details, especially online. Again, you don’t know who it is you’re meeting and if you end up with someone who’s taking advantage or fraudulent, then you don’t want them to know where you live. Ideally, it’s important to not reveal any of this information until you’re comfortable enough knowing they present no threat. When being careful, it might be a good idea to go on a few dates and get to a point where you’ve really taken the time to know them before inviting them back to yours.
It’s always good to be trusting of others but when you meet people randomly online, that trust can be exploited in ways you might never have imagined were possible.
Meet In A Covid- Friendly Environment
Covid is a dangerous virus and one that can be picked up very easily. When dating during this period, it’s a good idea to try and pick your dating location wisely. Ideally, you want to be in an outdoor environment or within a venue that has plenty of open space and which allows you to socially distance yourself from others. Meeting in a bar or restaurant that isn’t complying with social distancing rules is likely to cause you more risks and problems if caught out.
Bending the rules means risking lives and with something fun like dating, it’s important to be careful. The last thing you want is to get Covid or potentially give your date the virus either. Make sure you’re meeting somewhere that’s Covid-friendly or that you are able to distance yourself enough from your date or from others around you. This will help you to stay safe while dating online.
Be Wary Of Intimacy
Intimacy is one element of dating that in normal circumstances you wouldn’t have to question or be cautious of to such an extent. The virus is something that benefits from being close to others and intimacy when dating is a way that the virus can spread. It’s important to be wary of intimacy until you know it’s safe for both of you. Whether that’s kissing or having sex, you don’t want to risk either you or your loved’s, and neither do you want to do the same to the person you’re seeing.
Of course, you should only be intimate when you’re both ready but it’s worth being extra cautious because of the virus.
Dating online is always something to be careful of when it comes to your safety but that caution is needed now more than ever before. What steps have you taken to stay safe while dating online during the pandemic? Let me know in the comments below.
