How I Lost Weight During COVID-19

Let’s be honest here guys, COVID-19  has affected us all and some of us, more so. No one should feel ashamed or bad for putting on weight during this time because it’s been a mentally draining twelve months. I’m surprised at myself that I and my partner took to working out so hard during the pandemic and recently we’ve relaxed from exercise for a bit as we look after our recent addition to the family of two, a cockapoo puppy. However, I do enjoy exercising and so I’m hopefully going to pick back up with exercise more often from next week. With that being said, here’s how I lost weight during COVID-19.

Calorie Counting

Calorie counting is honestly the way to go when it comes to losing weight. At the end of the day, you really shouldn’t need to cut out the food that you love, as long as it’s in moderation and you’re not going over the calorie amount you’re meant to have each day to lose weight. For me, maintaining my weight is around 1,800 calories but losing it is somewhere around 1,490. A bit of a noticeable drop when it comes to what I ate in a day but it was more than manageable.

For many, this pandemic has led to a rise in anxiety, depression, overdose, and weight gain. We have to be kind to ourselves and trust the process when it comes to our weight loss regime. It’s not going to be something that just happens overnight.

Apps Were Used

When it comes to apps, there are some great ones out there that can help with your fitness and weight loss.  If you’re looking for examples, then this weight loss calculator can be useful. We also used an app called My Fitness Pal, which helped us to track our calories but also the exercise we were doing on a daily basis.

We Created A Routine

A routine is important because when you’ve got yourself a routine in place,  it all becomes a lot easier overall. We set ourselves up with a number of workouts each week and at the time, it helped both of us get through the struggles of uncertainty about whether our jobs would cease to exist in a matter of days or months. It also kept us distracted from the impending doom we felt in those initial few months. Creating a routine is useful and I urge you to start off in small amounts and build it up to a comfortable amount.

I Gave My Body More Attention

With the pandemic, you have people struggling with their sleep and I think a lot was on my mind, worrying for family members and whatnot. When it came to looking after my body, there were a lot of late nights working in fear of not knowing how good the next month would be financially. However, I did make sure that when I did late nights, I’d sleep in until I had a good night’s sleep. That might have meant waking up anywhere between 9-11 am but it meant that I wasn’t sacrificing the amount of sleep I got.

As a result of all this, I lost weight during COVID-19, over a stone actually. But it takes time and it’s different for everyone in regards to how much you can lose.  With that being said, let me know in the comments below how you managed over lockdown and the pandemic in general.
