Having planned my own wedding, I know a fair bit about creating a wedding checklist. One of the best pieces of advice was to keep yourself organised from day one by finding a structure or format that works best for you. For me, it was an Excel spreadsheet and even though our wedding is delayed until the following year now, pretty much everything is organised. Here’s how to create a wedding checklist.

Find a suitable platform
As I’ve already mentioned, I used Excel as the platform to lay out all my wedding necessities. I know friends and colleagues who’ve used planners they’ve received as gifts but for me, as someone who’s very digital in everything I do, I wanted something that I could spread out and see all on one screen. Excel is a great one because you can create multiple tabs. So with that said, I had my overall budget and list of expenses on one tab and then broke some of the other areas down like wedding invitation lists and accommodation allocations on another.
There are some great platforms available online now that are specific the wedding planning such as Wedding Wire. Alternatively, you can always consider gett a wedding planner to assist.
Make a timeline to know what needs doing now and later
A timeline is necessary to know what you need to do now and what needs doing later. With that being said, think about what tasks may need a bit more preparation or booking in advance. For me, booking the videographer and photographers early was essential. These roles in the day are critical and I knew from other brides that some photographers booked one or two years in advance. So if I wanted the best and the style that I’m after, then it was important to ensure I had booked these in advance.
Your wedding day is hopefully going to be the one and only time you get married, so it’s important to do it right!
Prioritise the most important elements
The next thing that you want to do is prioritise the most important elements of the day. For me, that’s the outfits from making decisions when choosing your bridal lingerie and picking out that all-important wedding dress. The same goes for the bridesmaid dresses, groomsmen, and groom attire. There might be more priorities for you as a bride and groom to be, so focus on what is critical for you and make sure to lead with those tasks first.
En joy the process
And lastly, enjoy the process. Many couples will often reflect on the stress of a wedding day and the lead-up to that big event but it’s something that also needs to be enjoyed. So with that being said, enjoy each and every part of the process. It’s important that you have these long-lasting memories that are positive and enjoyed in every moment that’s experienced.
