Why Personal Style Is Important When It Comes To Your Home | Age Co

We all have different tastes when it comes to our properties. Whether we’re a fan of modern and contemporary to vintage and rustic, how we style our homes tends to say a lot about our personality and household as a whole. I’ve partnered up with Age Co on their #DowntownReimagined campaign where they reimagine the iconic library in Downton Abbey in different celebrity’s homes. So with that being said, here’s why it’s important to have a personal style when it comes to your home.

Keeps your space interesting for you and your guests

The last thing you want when it comes to your home is a space that feels dull and lifeless. A lot of your personality is going to be from the types of furniture you choose to the more meaningful things like photographs of you and your family. A personal style can keep the space interesting, regardless of how small a room might be or how restricted it is in the way of natural light, etc. In our bathroom, we don’t have a window, so we have to find ways of lighting up the space in different ways. Here are a few suggestions for those rooms that are perhaps more difficult to dress because of certain restrictions like a lack of windows, for example.

Black screen mirror for bathtub

If you’re lacking windows, bring windows into the space itself to trick the brain. I love this black screen mirror for a bathtub and you can also get it for a walk-in shower too. Perfect solution for windowless bathrooms.

Artificial Lighting

Another way to bring light and style into a space such as a windowless bathroom or a room that doesn’t get much light is artificial light. You have options that you can plug in or you could always try battery-operated lighting. You can also get mirrors that have lighting fitted to the outside of it to provide more illumination.

Avoid darker shades

When it comes to brightening up a space, particularly a small one, opt for lighter neutrals and colours to help cater to what’s lacking. Try to find colours that are going to bring out those darker areas of the space in general.

No one likes a copycat

Just like Age Co’s campaign, every celebrity space that they mention is different from the next. That’s because everyone’s style is different but at the end of the day, why would you want to copy everything that someone else is done? It never truly feels like home if you’re styling your home exactly like a friend’s or family members.

With that being said, take a look at what’s out there and what you naturally gravitate towards. If we all have the same taste, it would likely be a very boring world to live in. Try to incorporate trends you love and mix up the spaces with furniture and features that you fall in love with, rather than mimicking what others are doing.

It’s great to experiment with colour, design, and textures

Experimenting with different colours, designs and textures are certainly important. You can benefit greatly from expanding your comfort zone when it comes to picking fabrics and different themes for your home space.

What suggestions would you make when it comes to adding a personal style to your home? Let me know in the comments below. With Age Co and their #DowntownReimagined campaign, hopefully, it provides you with plenty of inspiration to
