De-cluttering Your Home This Week

When you come to do some major home renovations and changes, one of the first things you should always do is declutter the home and make sure it is a blank canvas for your work. Decluttering the house can be a big challenge however we have some helpful ideas for where to start and which areas you should focus on this week. From the loft to the kitchen – here are some of the best ways for de-cluttering your home for renovation this summer.

Go through your pantry

If you want to clear out your kitchen cupboards and start to see a difference this year, the first thing you should do is go through your pantry and get rid of any food that is out of date or that you simply won’t use. We all have random cans and bottles of sauces in our cupboards that we will never use and now is the time to purge these from your cupboards and make room for new items that you will use in recipes. An extra tip – don’t ever buy things at the supermarket that don’t have a specific purpose. Stop buying random packets of couscous or rice unless you have a specific meal planned where you will use them.

Get rid of old appliances

One of the things that are always more tricky when decluttering the home is getting rid of appliances and metal items. However, there are steel recycling locations in every major city and as long as you call up and ensure you can take these items there you shouldn’t have any issues ridding yourself of your old toaster or microwave.

Refresh your artwork

One way to declutter and also restyle your home in one go is to refresh the artwork you have around the house. It is easy to get caught up in the sentimental value of a photo frame in your home and now and again we clog our homes with far too many. Get rid of some of your unneeded artwork and during this time consider changing a few things to refresh the home and give it a new look.

Take a look at your tools

Your toolbox as well as the garden shed can be hiding places for all sorts of clutter – and now is the time to go through these places and get rid of anything you no longer need. Anything from old rusty rakes to random screws can be thrown away and this will free up some space for things you actually will use in the future.

Revitalise your wardrobe

We all know how easy it is to clutter our wardrobes up with clothing that we will never wear. Clothes are fun to purchase and for many of us, we spend way too much money adding items to our wardrobes that we don’t have the time to wear throughout the year. Take an afternoon to go through all of your clothing and get rid of the things you no longer wear. This will free up a lot of space and you can donate these clothes to charity for a good cause.
