As another year draws to a close, I’d thought it would be an ideal time to let you know what’s happening with our property plans. The past couple of years has been a difficult one for everyone. For us, we were planning to move out of London to pastures new. This was the plan but plans do change! Due to the property market and a change in financial situation, we decided it would be best to keep hold of the property. As a result, we could remove the help-to-buy aspect of the ownership and chip away at our mortgage before eventually turning it into a buy to let. However, before that all happens, there are a few home improvements I’d like to make in 2022 and 2023.

Install blinds in all windows
Blinds weren’t always necessary for us as homeowners as we’re located on the top floor of a building. However, since more people have moved in around us and we’ve got the intention of letting the property out, we’ll need to kit out the flat with blinds in every other room. We’ve got them in our main bedroom but there are four more windows that we’ll need to get blinds for.
As much as I’d love to get the very best blinds, it’s not necessary to pay more than we need too so I’ll be getting them in Black Friday’s sale in 2022.
Declutter
Decluttering your space is also important because the amount of rubbish we end up acquiring over just a few months is ridiculous. We also don’t want to end up taking a load of stuff with us when we eventually move that we don’t need or will use. That’s why it’s good to do a decluttering and it’s also something we’ve thought about in the event where we move out before finding a new place. Now Storage self-storage in Reading is a great place for storing your belongings in a situation like this or if you’re needing to free up some space in your home.
Do some painting
The beauty of a new build is that everything has been painted beautifully and is perfect for the first couple of years. However, cream walls never do that well in the long term and can often end up looking quite dirty, worn, and tired after a while. With that being said, I would like to do some painting in the next year or so in order to tidy up certain areas that have seen better days. Nothing too bold but a classy and timeless colour that will sell the appeal of the property to renters.
Consider some worthwhile upgrades
Finally, I’m looking to make some worthwhile upgrades to the property in order to make it more attractive to those wanting to rent. Although the property itself and where it’s located is a good spot, there are a few add-ons that could help add value to the property with these home improvements. We’re going to make a couple of changes to the bathroom and kitchen that will hopefully update these spaces.
What home improvements would you like to make to your home in 2022? Let me know in the comments below.
