Easy Ways to Get Rid of Pests in Your Vehicle

Pests seem to appear out of nowhere. One day, your vehicle is clean and pest-free and just a few days later, your car is filled with little bugs. The most common pests found in vehicles are ants, roaches, beetles, fleas, and rodents. Most commonly, vehicles will have an infestation of just one pest but it’s possible for multiple species to be present. Bugs can fly into your vehicle through cracks in the windows while you’re on the roads. Rodents can scuttle into the doors when you open them to enter or leave your car.

It’s not always easy to prevent pests from getting into your car but you can take steps to prevent them from being attracted to your vehicle. For example, removing food wrappers or sweet-smelling car air fresheners will be helpful. As soon as you spot one bug or roach in the car, it’s important that you take action. Failing to do so could lead to the problem getting even worse and more uncontrollable. Luckily, there are lots of things that you can do to manage a pest infestation before it gets out of hand. Here are some easy ways to get rid of pests in your vehicle.

Vacuum the Interior of Your Vehicle

Use a powerful vacuum to hoover up any roaches, beetles, or flies from your car seats and mats. Vacuuming will also get rid of any carcasses, and eggs or larvae that are waiting to hatch and release even more pests. Make sure to get into every nook and cranny when cleaning your car’s interior. Pests can hide in the smallest of places and it’s easy to miss them if you’re not careful. Open the doors, pull the seats forward, remove the floor mats, and give everywhere a good clean.

You can use a small car vacuum but it must be one with a powerful suction so that no pests or eggs are left untouched. If you want to be extra cautious, you can get specialized vacuuming equipment for your car but this isn’t always necessary.

Wash the Exterior of Your Vehicle

Pests don’t just live inside your car. They can also cling to the outside of it as well. Common nesting places for bugs and flies include the back of the wing mirrors, the underside of the door handles, and around the bumper. Grab a sponge and a bucket of hot, soapy water, and give your car’s exterior a wash. Take your time to clean every area of your car so you don’t miss any live or unhatched pests. Make sure to get behind the wing mirrors and around the windows and door handles. Don’t forget to wash off any bubbles or excess soap at the end too.

Wash Removable Upholstery and Floor Mats

Pests love the nestle into the upholstery or mats of your car where it’s moist and warm. Removing as much material as you can from the inside of your car and either vacuuming them or running them through the washing machine will kill any live pests and remove any eggs and carcasses.
