Your employees have likely gotten very comfortable in their home office setup over the last two years during the pandemic. Many managers and employers are now asking their employees to return to the office. Although the pandemic isn’t over yet, they feel that it is safe enough to have people working in a traditional setting once again.
If you are in charge of making the call that people need to return, then it is your responsibility to make sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible. You can’t simply expect people to restart that phase of their lives as if nothing ever happened. In this article, we will go over several of the steps you need to take to make sure that the process works for everybody.

1 – Accommodate their needs
Covid is still circulating despite what many people are hoping. This means that it’s essential to open the office in the safest way possible. There are two main ways that you can ensure that they are working in a safe manner and that you are watching out for their safety.
The first is to make sure the office is cleaned and ventilated regularly. Set up the office in such a way that there is plenty of distance between workstations and the air is ventilated and recirculated regularly. Then provide them with durable office furniture Utah makes that can hold up to being cleaned with disinfectants on a regular basis.
The second thing is to give them some flexibility. Don’t ask everybody to come back to the office for the entire week. Give them a day or two to work from home so there isn’t too much mingling between workers. Having them come in at different times will also help with overcrowding in the office.
2 – Help them with their mental health needs
After two years of dealing with the pandemic, people have very fragile mental health. As an employer, you can do a lot to help them deal with some of the problems they are likely having as a result of the last two years. Some people experienced losing a loved one to the virus. Others got ill and are still having health problems.
Whatever the reason, they will need to be back to full mental health to be productive again so the more you can provide them with resources the faster the process will be. Give them access to a psychiatrist that they can talk to when they need some help.
3 – Practice first
Give people plenty of advance notice and tell them the specific day that they are expected back. However, make it a one or two-day return to evaluate how it went. This allows them to time their commute and also see how it is going to go back in the office setting.
It will give you and them time to iron out the wrinkles so that when they do come back permanently, everything goes much more smoothly.
