Every airport is a little bit different from the next, and so it’s always good to be actively prepared for your experience at the next airport you find yourself in. To date, one of my favourite airports to travel via is Chicago in the US. It was by far one of the most pleasant and seamless experiences I’ve ever had, and sometimes it’s about the people on shift that day, as well as how well you’re prepared for the journey ahead, that contribute to a positive airport experience.
If you’re travelling from Liverpool Airport, there are some basics worth remembering, especially if you haven’t travelled via an airport in some time. There are also some handy tips on how to navigate Liverpool Airport in particular.

Top tips for travelling via Liverpool Airport
When it comes to travelling via Liverpool Airport, there are a number of specific tips that are worth knowing.
Pre-book your airport parking
Pre-booking your airport car parking will help to ensure you arrive on time, park up without any hassle and make your way into the airport. Ideally, you want to use official airport parking relative to Liverpool Airport. That way, you get to the airport as soon as possible.
With both long-stay options and short-stay tickets, it’s good to know what you’ll need before you book.
Find your gate
Once you’re through security, you’ll want to find the gate that you’re boarding from. You’ll find this information on the departure screens located throughout the airport. At this point, there are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop before your flight. Some of the venues available within the airport include:
- Boots

- Sable & Co
- The Kissing Gate
- Tap & Brew
Treat yourself to the airport lounge
You’ve also got the opportunity to indulge in a little bit of luxury with the Aspire airport lounge. This costs around £45.00 per adult.
The basics when travelling via an airport
To ensure a smooth journey from any airport, you should follow these useful steps.
1. Arrive early
First and foremost, it’s always good to arrive early when it comes to travelling by plane. Arriving early should be three hours before an international flight. I believe it’s at least two hours for a domestic flight.
2. Check in online
Checking in online is a great way to get ahead of the check-in line that’s likely to be there once you arrive for your flight. By checking in online, you can jump the queues and get ahead of the crowd so that you can relax a little more once you’ve gone past security.
3. Prepare for security
Security is an important point to prepare for and to make sure you’re well informed on as the rules may have changed or adjusted slightly since you last travelled.
Currently, all liquids and gels, as well as aerosols, must be in containers of 100ml or less. This should all fit into a single, clear and resealable plastic bag. However, at Liverpool Airport, a clear plastic bag isn’t required.
Electronics should also be removed and placed into a separate tray for scanning. You should pack everything in an accessible bag that you can unpack and repack with ease.
4. Wear appropriate clothing
It’s worthwhile for the sake of navigating through any airport with ease to wear appropriate clothing. Relaxed clothing is always the best type to wear so that you can move about with ease.
Avoid any bulky jewellery, heavy belts or metal items that will set off the metal detectors. You’ll also want to remove any layers, taking off hats, scarves and coats before reaching the security checkpoint to help the process go faster.
5. Know your airline’s baggage rules
You should check your airline’s baggage rules to make sure you know everything when it comes to the airline’s luggage rules. Each airline operates differently when it comes to its rules, so it’s good to be aware of the sizes, as well as any prohibited items.
