If you’re reading this article here in Thailand, it seems obvious that it is your intention to take up some kind of sport, to get yourself back into good physical shape. Many people live a very sedentary lifestyle, and their health suffers as a direct result. The important thing is to remember that you haven’t taken part in sports in quite some time, so start slowly and take your time. The reason for this is to make sure that you avoid an injury at the very beginning, because this may set back your new routine by many weeks or months.
There are many different sports that you can take part in, like football, basketball, golf, and maybe try to squeeze in a few games of tennis as well. If you come out of the gate too strongly, there might be a possibility that you will experience tennis elbow symptoms, and treatment will be required to get you back to full fitness again. It is reassuring to know that there are treatment options available to you for various sports injuries, but the following are some of the ways to avoid these injuries in the first place.

- Warm up & cool down – It can be tempting just to start playing one of your favourite sports almost immediately. However, it is imperative that you do a proper warmup to get your muscles functioning as they should and to get your heart ready for what lies ahead. Equally important is the cool down after you have finished. Once again, it can be tempting to just sit down and try to find your breath, but you need to go through a proper cool-down procedure to protect yourself from injury.
- Mix things up a little – There may be a particular sport that you really enjoy doing, but doing the same thing over and over again, using the same muscles, may result in a sports injury. This is why it is important that you try to mix things up a little and try to do many different activities. Alongside playing tennis, for example, maybe you could incorporate some swimming in there, and maybe some time spent cycling. This will not only improve your fitness levels, but it will also provide strength to all of your muscle groups.
- Do some strength training – Your core is incredibly important when trying to keep yourself injury-free. You need good stability to be able to enjoy a number of sports, so concentrate not only on your lower body muscles, but also on your upper body as well. Nobody is saying that you have to lift an incredible amount of weight, but incorporating some weight training into your daily routine is an excellent way to ensure that you target specific muscle groups and you don’t get hurt.
It is crucial that you get to experience excellent flexibility and mobility, and this will happen by using proper techniques and having the correct form. Always take your rest days for essential recovery.
