Let’s Talk About Conor McGregor – Even Convictions Lead To Career Redemption

Whilst I really don’t want to give this piece of crap any more social media/digital presence, this blog has always been a way of expressing my views in long-form content that can’t be done through social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok. Conor McGregor has recently crawled back out of whatever rock he should have stayed under, and despite being convicted as a rapist, he’s been glorified and allowed to step back into the spotlight.

Conor McGregor

I first spotted his reappearance, as did so many on the Jimmy Fallon show. I’ve been a fan of Jimmy Fallon, and I have to say I was incredibly disappointed at how they platformed this convicted rapist on such a huge platform. It’s one thing to have him on as a guest, but the radio silence from Jimmy Fallon since it aired has been DEAFENING.

It seems as though many of these big corporations will simply dismiss and ignore when they’ve clearly stepped over the line, and in this case, they’ve gone so far beyond the line, I don’t think they saw it in the first place. Whoever decided it was a good call to bring on Conor McGregor has seriously fucked up.

So let’s talk about the real problem at play when we platform individuals like Conor McGregor. When we celebrate and put into power people like Donald Trump. These are convicted individuals who, despite being criminals, can still climb the ranks or have a redemption arc. It blows my mind that we’ve got people out there who are happy to support and root for people like Conor McGregor, who have been accused and found guilty of rape. He caused such brute force that the tampon the victim was wearing had to be SURGICALLY removed.

I find it hard to believe that anyone who is supporting Conor would have the same attitude if that were their daughter, mother, or friend who had been raped. Conor should never have been given the opportunity, let alone the ability, to get back into the ring.

However, that’s the reality we sadly live in. Despite many people being vocal on how we must protect our women and children, in the same breath, they’re the same individuals who are committing these heinous acts of violence. What message does that give to younger generations? I’ve got two young boys to raise, and I would hate for them to grow up in a world where that’s something they’re exposed to, and god forbid it influences them in any negative manner.

As a society, we need to be more emboldened with our voices and to also have a bit of a backbone when it comes to sticking to what we believe in. If you’re supporting someone like Conor McGregor, then you’re supporting rape. You’re supporting the abuse of women and of violence in general. We have seen recently and often see judges across the globe dismissing the actions of men who commit violent attacks on women for fear that it ruins their lives. Even though those individuals have already done that to their victims.

The reappearance of Conor McGregor serves as a reminder that despite being a convicted rapist. Despite causing such disgusting acts of sexual violence against another human being, you can step back into showbiz or, in general, go on with your life without much in the way of accountability or consequence.
