Rebel of The Sands is a fantasy novel by a new author named Alwyn Hamilton. After just looking up the book on the great new site I’ve discovered called GoodReads, I’m happy to know that the second book in the series has been written and is currently been edited (YAY). GoodReads will also help me to keep track of how many books I’ve read so that I reach that much needed goal of 50 books for the year 2016!
Now, I’m one of those readers who will do all they can to try and get into a book. I will read it 4,5 or 6 times over at the beginning if I’m struggling to get into it. Normally with a book I like, it will take me a mere few days to complete it. Travelling around London day in, day out means you have plenty of spare time where you can either stare down at the underground floor, gawp at the person opposite you or do something productive. I’m very happy to say that Alywn’s book never stayed in my bag for more than a few hours. I was well and truly BOOK HOOKED!
The story follows a girl called Amani, trapped in a town controlled by men and where her destiny is to merely serve man.
Yeah, Emma Stone..exactly. But Amani is destined for greater things. Destined to wind up ‘wed or dead’, she relies on her sharp shooting skills at the beginning of the book to get her out of a town called Dustwalk. She’s sneaked away to take part in a competition that could finally be the key to her escape. When she meets a handsome foreigner called Jin, she’s sure he’s the perfect escape route, however in all her years spent dreaming of leaving home, she could never imagine the adventures that lie in store for her.
The book will have you gripped from the beginning until the very end. There’s moments of triumph and moments where you just want to jump into the book and do some serious damage to the evil characters…You end up spurring on Amani to the bitter end and left wanting more. Knowing that there’s going to be a sequel to the book is incredibly satisfying. I will even go as far to say that this has more than an opportunity to be created into a film. I would definitely be first in line to grab a ticket.
Be sure to buy the book if you enjoy fantasy and adventure. It’s similar to Harry Potter but stands alone in it’s own mystical ways.
