This year is the year of saving money for the wedding so that means mini holidays as opposed to big ones. Saving money has always been something that I consider to be good at and it’s probably come from my Mum, who is a money-savvy saver herself. As part of Experian’s latest campaign #ExperianMoneyDiaries I have already spoken about how I’m budgeting money over the New Year. In this post though, I wanted to discuss about how you can save money for travel this year.

Travel opens your eyes to the world beyond your town or city. There are so many cultures and cuisines to explore and you’d be selling yourself short if you didn’t do it. But travelling does cost money, so what are my saving tips for travel?
Take Advantage Of Apps
With so many apps available through our phones, you can take advantage of a wealth of apps that can make saving money for travel a little easier. A few recommendations would be Monzo. It seems to be used by many of my friends and is one I want to use this year to help me save my money to help towards my wedding. I also want to be now saving for other future investments, perhaps to buy more property and savings for kids! Chip is also one that I’ve recently started using where you hook it up to your online banking and it sets aside a bit of money every few days. It recognises your spending and puts aside a small amount you can afford to put into a separate savings account.
Skyscanner and Hopper are two great apps that help track flights and find the best price for you or recommend when the best time is to purchase tickets.
Look At Your Current Expenditures
There’s always something that you can cut down on to save money. Whether it’s a membership or perhaps spending a little too much on a food bill or social occasions, it’s useful to look at your current expenditures. Knowing where your money is going is really handy to have so that you can make the necessary cuts so that you have some extra funds to go towards your travel pot. Cut back on daily coffee trips and ask yourself whether you need that 38578458th jumper.
Think About Your Spending While Travelling
The expenditure on travelling abroad can be half the battle but it’s an extra cost when thinking about your spending whilst over there. Life can throw a few curve balls when you least expect it and you might find yourself a little short on funds. Experian has plenty of options available when it comes cashback and rewards credit card to save and cut down the costs. Credit cards and loans should always be approached with caution though, so if you already have a number of loans or credit cards, this might not be a suitable option.
